Since the 1970s, Livingston, California has been a hotbed of coffee culture. The city's history with coffee goes back to 1868, when two Frenchmen, Paul Lafarge and Pierre-Jacques Conte, founded the Lafarge Coffee Company in what is now downtown Livingston. In 1915, the company became part of J.P. Morgan & Co., which was later taken over by Peet’s Coffee Corporation. In 1971, Peet’s merged with Dutch Bros., creating one of the world’s largest coffee companies. At its height, Peet’s had interests in more than 100 countries around the world. The company continued to grow until it went bankrupt in 2000. During its time as a public company, Peet’s Coffee produced some of the most famous brands in all of food: Dunkin' Donuts®, Starbucks®, Caribou Coffee®, and Lululemon Athletica® stores across North America and Europe. But while Peet's legacy will be long remembered for its iconic products and businesses such as Dunkin' Donuts®, Starbucks(), Caribou Coffee(), and Lululemon Athletica® stores across North America and Europe – there are also many other aspects to their story that deserve attention: their impact on coffee culture as a whole; their impact on Livingston; and how they've helped shape this town into one of the most vibrant coffee destinations in North America today.

In the early 1900s, Livingston was a small town in California's Central Valley. There were few places to buy coffee beans and most people drank tea or water. One entrepreneur decided to start a business making coffee beans from scratch. He named his company "Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf". The first shipment of beans arrived in 1912. Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf became one of the first java restaurants in America. In the 1940s, Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf moved its operation to San Francisco and changed their name to Java Joe's Coffee Company. In 1969, Java Joe's Coffee Company merged with another coffee company, Dutch Bros., which left Livingston with just two shops - Java Joe's and Dutch Bros.' Cafeteria on Fourth Street (now JR East). Java Joe's closed in 1978 and all that remains are some foundations and a plaque marking the location where they first opened their shop.
Livingston, California is a small town located in Kern County, California. The population was 1,823 as of the 2010 census. It is part of the Palmdale-Monrovia-Pasadena Metropolitan Statistical Area. Livingston began as an agricultural community in 1887 and became a resort town during prohibition. In 1932, it was renamed after Sir John Livingston, 3rd Baronet. Livingston is known for its annual Strawberry Festival which takes place on the first weekend of July in downtown Livingston. The community was founded by residents of nearby Bakersfield who were displaced by the construction of the Transcontinental Railroad. Many OFarrell families moved to Livingston from Bakersfield during World War I and II because there were no jobs available in Bakersfield or Kern County. They built homes along Upright Drive and gathered around their fireplaces to chat about their lives when they received telegraph messages report Japanese attacks on American forces in San Francisco Bay area on December 7, 1941 (the " Pearl Harbor Attack"). On that day all but two family members who lived at home died when their building collapsed due to severe damage caused by fire attributed to falling objects from the attack days later. On September 9, 1945 General Douglas MacArthur delivered his famous speech calling for unconditional surrender at Japan's Tokyo Headquarters including portions of what is now downtown Livingston including parts destroyed in the bombing raid three days earlier which killed many people near Main Street and Fourth Avenue

Livingston, California is located in the Central Valley of California. The community was founded on November 17, 1847 by J.W. Livingston and his wife Caroline at the junction of the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway and the Ventura County Road 507. The town was named after James Livingston, a Scottish fur trader who had traveled through central California in 1836. In 1850, Livingston built the first store in Livingston with two rooms inside a adobe courthouse building that he erected on what is now First Street. In 1861, he donated land to create a public square in downtown Livingston which still stands today. In 1865, James Drought developed what is now Northridge and added another block to downtown which became known as South Boulevard until it was renamed University Avenue in 1911 when Southern Pacific Railway moved its corporate headquarters from Sacramento to Livingston. On July 14, 1886, John Sutter founded an agricultural colony called Eureka near present-day Fresno CA (now part of Eureka). On October 15th of that year Sutter's new settlement was granted Mexican Land Grant No 2175 from US President Grover Cleveland for 640 acres near present-day Humboldt County CA (now part of Sacramento), although it never reached full development due to Californio resistance to alien invasion and colonization by whites while they were still under Spanish rule
Livingston was founded in 1871 by John Livingston and his family. The town became a rail junction in the late 19th century as it served as the terminus of the Southern Pacific Railroad. The town's growth slowed after World War II, but has since resumed its rapid growth. In 2016, Livingston had a population of over 50,000 people.
