In 1954, Lieutenant Colonel Harry Baulden donated his home at 4010 Main Street to the UIAF (United Independent American Forces). Today it is known as Soldiers' Home Bldg., which provides housing and living quarters for displaced veteran soldiers and their families throughout Northern California . Since becoming operational in 1958, the Veterans Affairs Department's Soldier Readiness Center has played an important role in supporting USArmy troops stationed hereabouts by providing access to resources such as clothing, food stamps, outreach programs and more- extensive training opportunities than ever before enjoyed byees overseas .

Lodi is located on the eastern edge of Inyo National Forest and has a temperate continental climate. The name "Lodi" means "place where many sheep pastured." The town began as a post office called Logan in 1872. It was renamed Lodi in 1893 after General John A. Logan who fought in the Mexican–American War and later served as Minister to Mexico City. Lodi is a small town in the California desert, located about 30 miles east of Los Angeles. The population was 1,878 at the 2010 census. It is part of Kern County. The first permanent settlement in Lodi was made by Alvarado and Martinez in 1847, when they founded the Rancho San Bernardino de las Pulgas (later Rancho Cucamonga) south of present-day downtown Lodi. The name "Lodi" was given to the community by John Sutter during his visit to the area in 1849. In 1862, act passed giving city status to Los Angeles County, and Lodi became an incorporated town on November 15, 1865. In 1900, it had a population of 5,000 people and began to experience rapid growth thanks to new transportation methods such as express trains from Los Angeles Union Station northward that connected with Southern California's farming areas.
