Artisan Coffee has been in business for over 25 years and is a part of the Loma Linda community. The coffee shop was started by two friends, John and Karen Kohn. They decided to open up their own business because they believed that great coffee could be made easily with quality ingredients. The first artisans coffee shop was opened up in 1984, in a small storefront on Main Street in Loma Linda. It was called “The Olde House” and served only organic sandwiches and roasts from local farms. The store quickly became well-known within the community for its delicious coffee and friendly atmosphere. In 1992, Artisan Coffee moved to its current location on First Avenue in downtown Loma Linda. This new space features an indoor/outdoor seating area as well as a large patio with views of the campus skyline. The café serves both organic and regular coffee drinks along with pastries and snacks. Today, Artisan Coffee continues to serve delicious cup of Joe's every day of the week! The Loma Linda coffee industry began in the early 1920s when a group of men and women working at a small farm in the hills outside of town decided to start their own coffee shop. The first shop, Coffee & Creamery, opened in 1924. In 1938, the town's first grocery store, ShopriteMart, became the first retailer to sell coffee beans from Loma Linda farms. At that time, Loma Linda was home to only a few hundred people; however, over time it grew into one of the largest agricultural communities in California. Today, Loma Linda is known for its world-renowned artisanal coffee products and has become an important node in the global coffee industry.

Today there are several large retail stores surrounding campus but much smaller businesses have taken hold near downtown such as Jamba Juice Coffee & Juice - home of Starbucks - leases across three blocks east at 7th Street & Interstate 5rawl between Safeway Pharmacy on one side (soon to be acquired by Kroger)and Applebees siting next door on another block just south of Wegmans Grocery store across I-5 southbound off Ventura Boulevard
