The Coast Guard Museum in Loma Linda, California contains a large collection of coast guard gifts. The museum was founded in 1927 and is the only repository of coast guard artifacts in the Los Angeles area. The collection includes items from throughout the history of the Coast Guard. One of the earliest gifts to the Coast Guard Museum was an American flagpole. This gift came from Captain John Sutter, commander of ship "Seahorse" during World War I. The flagpole was donated to the museum by Captain Sutter's widow, Mrs. Harry Wolkstein, in 1959. Other early gifts include a life jacket and icebreaker scupper. These were given as Christmas gifts to members of the Coast Guard Auxiliary in 1941 and 1942, respectively. In 1957, a thermos flask with cold drinks was donated to the museum by Lieutenant Commander Earl Fenton, commanding officer of USS Ponce (LHD-4). In 1978, a Chaplain's Bible was gifted to the museum by Reverend Aloysius Jaffeaux for use at chapel services on board USCGC Polar Sea (CG-1). In 1984, a set of binoculars were donated by Commodore Clifford Aiken III for use on board CG-521 during Operation Neptune's Spear II off Afghanistan . In 1992, a small plaque honoring First Class Petty Officer Robert Ransom who lost his life while saving people from a sinking cruise linerwas also given to commemorate his donation . A year later another plaque honoring Petty Officer 1st Class Darrell Laughlin who died while saving lives on board MV Sunbeam (CGN-8)was also given . In 1994 another small plaque honoring Petty Officer 2nd Class Edwin Treadway Jr., who died while rescuing people from burning vesselswas also given .

The Loma Linda Coast Guard Foundation was founded in 1967 as the Friends of the Loma Linda Coast Guard. In 1984, the Foundation became a full-time 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Since its inception, the Coast Guard Foundation has donated over $200 million to support coast guard programs and operations throughout California. The main donations have been money for new equipment, funding for research and development, and gifts of goods and services. In 2018, the Coast Guard Foundation announced that it would award a $100 million grant to help improve ocean safety through sea theft prevention and deterrence.

The town's growth slowed after World War II when the area became a target of United States military bombing raids. However, it regained popularity during the post-war period as a result of its shopping and entertainment opportunities. In 1955, Loma Linda Polytechnic College was established in the town and it has become one of America's leading technological universities.
Loma Linda University was founded in 1914 as a branch of the larger California School of Mines and Metallurgy. In 1927, the school became Loma Linda College. A year later, it united with Claremont Colleges to become Loma Linda University-Claremont. In 1945, Loma Linda College became a university and in 1967, Claremont Colleges merged with Loma Linda University to form the current campus of Loma Linda University. The first president of Loma Linda University was Dr. Jameson Boren.
