Loma Linda University is a private university located in Loma Linda, California. The history of coffee at Loma Linda began with two farmers who grew coffee on their properties. In 1887, Dr. James Drew founded the first commercial coffee plant in California. Drew’s beans were sold under the name “Drew Coffee” until 1915 when they were renamed “Loma Linda Coffee” after then-President John F. Kennedy's hometown in Massachusetts. The company continued to produce quality coffee until it was acquired by Keurig Incorporated in 1971. Today, Keurig still manufactures and sells its iconic coffee products across America and around the world through different brands including K-Cups, Single Serve Brewers and Tumblers (the last being initiated in 1992). The history of coffee at Loma Linda University goes back even further than that! In 1865, Dr. Samuel Morse started a small farm near present day Loma Linda which yielded some excellent beans for roasting and selling under his own name before he joined forces with Isaac Briggs to form Morse & Briggs Coffee Company Ltd., which later became known as American Coffee Corporation (ACC). ACC exported its beans all over North America before finally ceasing operations in 1980 due to debt problems. In 1984, ACC merged with Boston Tea Party Brewing Co., creating what we now know as American Breweries Inc.- a subsidiary of ABInCo Holdings LLC (based out of Arlington Heights, Illinois). Since then, ACC has been responsible for manufacturing various types of beer for both domestic and export markets worldwide under various brand names including Anchor Steam [now Anheuser Busch], Boston Beer [now Miller Lite], Heineken [now Budweiser] and many more!
