When the United States Air Force was founded in 1947, the idea of airpower as a key part of American national power was novel. The USAF had never been organized into an air force like Britain's RAF or France's F-86 Sabre Fighter Wing. So when General Curtis LeMay became Director of National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) in 1958, he made it his mission to create an airborne arm that could "dominate the space race." And so began the era of space exploration. In 1969, with world peace at stake, the Nixon administration ordered Operation Neptune's Spear, which aimed to destroy all copies of Apollo 11 moon landing transcripts on Earth. It is said that if those tapes were ever to be found and released they would have "immediately ended America's space program." In 1971, President Richard Nixon announced plans forOperation Starlite II - a plan to send humans beyond Earth's orbit by flying heavy bombers outfitted with miniature spacecraft called OPSEC satellites. This was only one example of how Nixon looked to use U.S. military might for strategic ends during his presidency: both before and after Watergate. After years of development and testing, Project Starlite III finally succeeded in launching two astronauts – Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin Jr., who walked on the Moon in 1969; and Michael Collins – into orbit aboard Saturn 2 on July 16th 1969. This event marked not only an important technological advance but also a symbolic victory for American aviation – forevermore NASA would be able to maintain its lead over Russia in space technology! With this achievement came new challenges both terrestrial (the Cold War was still going strong) and extraterrestrial (the US no longer ruled the universe). For example, did we really just cross over into another era?

The United States Air Force has always been a part of the community in Lomita, California. The USAF's first permanent unit was activated here on July 20, 1948, when the 45th Fighter Wing was established at John F. Kennedy International Airport. The wing originally consisted of P-51 Mustangs and F-86 Sabres. The wing transitioned to the F-4 Phantom II in 1957 and then continued to fly the Phantoms until 1991. In that year, it moved to Holloman AFB and became an operational Tornado squadron. Today, Lomita is home to two USAF installations: 1st Mission Support Squadron (1MSN) which provides worldwide airlift services for Headquarters US Air Forces Europe; 2ndForward Operating Base (2FOB) which supports joint military exercises with other nations around the world as well as providing housing and living quarters for installation personnel and their families.
Lomita is a city in San Diego County, California, United States. The population was 27,515 at the 2010 census. It is located on the coastal plain of Southern California and is served by the Amtrak train station (and other local services). The first Europeans to visit Lomita were Missionaries of Our Lady of Guadalupe who passed through in 1776 and 1777. A post office called Lomita was founded in 1851, and the town took its name from nearby Loma Prieta Mountain range. In 1874, a railroad bypassed Lomita and bypassed downtown; as a result, most businesses closed down during the early 20th century. However, starting around 1920s new businesses started coming back to town with increasing traffic due to fishing and military bases being stationed in neighboring Imperial County. In 1951, when Pomona became an incorporated city adjacent to Los Angeles County, it merged with Lomita into one municipality. The old City Hall building still stands on Main Street near Eastshore Drive serving as both municipal courthouse and annexed library until it was destroyed by fire in 1984; however the cornerstone remains unaltered today inside Municipal Building #2 on First Street across from Harbor Freight Wharf Incorporated since 1907. In 1974 Pomona annexed Anza Borrego Springs creating another municipality within Pomona's borders which included much of what now makes up eastern San Marcos Valley including parts of present-day Rancho Cucamonga On July 1st 2020 all municipalities within Orange County moved into state government effective from that date LOMITA has been municipally governed since 1951 when Pomona merged with Lomita

Lomita, California is a small town in the Malibu Hills area of Los Angeles County, California. The population was 8,609 at the 2000 census. Lomita is known for its Mediterranean-style architecture and beachfront setting. The town's economy relies on tourism and agriculture. The first humans to inhabit what is now Lomita were Mexican traders who traveled through the region during the 1820s and 1830s looking for land to sale back home. In 1851, John Sutter founded Sutter's Mill in present-day Santa Monica Boulevard and Pacific Coast Highway in what is now Lomita. By 1870, over 100 Italian Americans had moved to Lomita from cities such as San Francisco and Torrance because of their work at Sutter's Mill or other businesses near the ocean. As early as 1911, Lomita was one of only two towns in Southern California without an electric light billowing out like wildfire across all of Los Angeles County; it switched to electric service by 1913. Prior to that, gaslights were used throughout most of the town except along Pacific Coast Highway where oil lamps served until 1924 when they were replaced with electricity due to concerns about health hazards associated with gaslighting (such as carbon monoxide poisoning). Lombaia Lodge opened its doors on May 3rd 1902 with 12 guestrooms inside a Spanish style building situated on a bluff overlooking Point Dume (now known as Avalon Beach). Lombaia Lodge became one of America’s most popular tourist destinations thanks largely to President Theodore Roosevelt who visited it while he was touring Southern California in 1912 and 1913 before his presidency made him interested in environmental issues which would later influence his administration policies regarding energy development both within America and abroad including developingLos Angeles County into one of America’s leading entertainment capitals thanks primarily to Hollywood’s emergence from agricultural obscurity beginning around 1910 until well into the 1920s even as neighboring Pasadena experienced rapid growth spurts followed by limited success until 1949 when Interstate 10 was constructed cutting off much needed access southward whereas eastward progress led directly southward bypassing much important farmland especially along Baldwin Park Blvd which forms today’s downtown city limits between Century City/ Westwood Village northwest towards Beverly Hills east past Miracle Mile then northwest through Downtown LA finally reaching Point Mugu just outside Malibu
