When coffee first arrived in Lomita, California in the late 1800s it was roasted and shipped from Brazil. The beans were brought overland on pack animals and unloaded at a small plantation near the town of La Jolla. After some time, one of the original roasters in Lomita, Angelo's Coffee & Tea Company began to roast their own beans. They made a difference for the local community by providing fresh-roasted coffee for residents of La Jolla and nearby towns. The early years of Angelo's Coffee & Tea Company were very successful and they soon outgrew their small plantation location. In 1924, they moved to a larger facility on State Road 1 in present-day Thousand Oaks. This allowed them to continue roasting their own beans until 1974 when they closed down due to financial challenges. Coffee was first exported from Lomita to Mexico and then to Europe. In 1912, a small grocery store, The Grist Mill, opened in Lomita and started selling coffee. In 1916, the Lopez family purchased the store and began marketing their own coffee. By 1922, The Grist Mill had been closed and replaced by another grocery store, The Home Depot. At this point in time, business around Lomita was mainly for people who bought items like milk and eggs from nearby farms or got their groceries from local merchants. In the mid-1960s, The Home Depot merged with another grocery chain, Safeway Inc., which made it difficult for independent businesses to survive since they could no longer compete financially. This led to an increase in prices for goods sold at Grocery Outlet stores across Southern California due to increased competition from larger retailers. However, Lomita's independently operated stores did not fold as easily as other stores within Southern California because they had a unique history that helped them stay afloat during tough times. In 1984, Antonio Ramos reopened his old hotel (now known as Hotel Bristol) looking for a new location after purchasing the property next door from its previous owner. He found what he was looking for when he discovered an open ground lot next to his hotel that would provide enough space for him to expand his business into more than just a restaurant/barbershop/motel - he wanted to start a coffee shop! After months of research and consideration (he brought in many guests who tasted different types of coffees at Hotel Bristol), Antonio decided on roasting his own beans and serving them up fresh every day of the week inside his newly renovated cafe/hotel! Today Hotel Bristol is still one of downtown Lomita's most popular tourist destinations thanks to its beautiful architecture and delicious cup of java!
Lomita is a town in Orange County, California, United States. The population was 10,812 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Irvine metropolitan area and is the easternmost incorporated community in Orange County. The first Europeans to visit what is now Lomita were Spanish missionaries in 1821. In 1847, Californian landowner John Sutter founded the town on his Rancho Niguel property west of Fullerton. The original name for Lomita was "San Juan de la Luz". In 1957, Lomita voters approved Measure M which designated it as an official city. On October 11, 1971, City Manager Donny Hebert announced that the city would be dissolved and its citizens would become residents of Irvine instead. The population of Lomita grew rapidly from its early years until after 1990 when it began to decline due to suburbanization and then loss of jobs in southernOrange County during the real estate bubble era. However, there has been recent growth with several new businesses opening up in downtown Lomita including a health foods store and a grocery store/delivery service called Fresh Market .

Lomita, California is a small community located on the Pacific Coast Highway in Inyo County, California. The town was founded by the Hetch Hetchy company in 1904 as a citrus fruit and watermelon growing community. Lomita's name comes from the local language word "lomo" meaning "to please." Lomita has experienced many changes over its history. Its first inhabitants were Native American tribes who hunted and fished in the area before coming to live in what is now Lomita. The first European to visit Lomita was Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo on October 29, 1542 when he anchored off the coast of present-day Lomita and observed an indigenous population of about 100 people living near Mission San Gabriel Arcángel. The Spanish colony of Nuestra Señora de la Concepción (Nuestra Señora of Conception) was established at Point Sur on November 1, 1769 by José Nieto and Francisco Xavier de Anza with 527 Indian followers under his command. The mission became known as Nuestra Senoritas del Desierto after Mexican War Lieutenant governor Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna granted land for the establishment of missions along what is now Interstate 10 east of Nogales but south of today's town limits. In 1853, following Mexico’s independence from Spain, rancho grants were given to individuals or families who resided within five miles (8 kilometers) of a commercial center such as Signal Hill or Atascadero Padres Station; these ranches formed Rancho El Conejo which included much of present-day Inyo County including portions now part of Tecopa and Big Bear City. The development around Signal Hill began with three posts set up by Captain James Cook during his final voyage around Australia on February 14–15, 1779: Rockingham Post (now Signal Hill), Discovery Post (later renamed Fort Ross), and Erebus Post (now called Echo Beach). These operations followed guidelines developed by Commodore John Hawkins who had sailed aboard HMS Resolution upon her return from Japan in 1788 during the First Anglo-Japanese War which led to British demands for compensation for Japanese citizensulfured goods seized during that conflict between Britain and Japan.
