The Lompoc Air Force Base is home to the United States Air Force's largest air force, with over 48,000 active duty and reserve members. The base has a rich history dating back to World War II. In 1942, the Lompoc Army Air Field was established on an area now known as the "Tower Hill" neighborhood of Lompoc. From this location, the ArmyAir Forces conducted combat operations in support of both World War II and the Korean War. On October 1, 1944, General Douglas MacArthur proclaimed "Lompoc Day." This event commemorated the first time American aircraft had been used in battle against Japanese forces in mainland Asia. In May 1947, Lieutenant General James E. Gavin became Commanding Officer of Alameda County Airport near Lompoc after being tapped by then-Defense Secretary James Forrestal to lead a new airport development program at Alameda County Airport. Lt. Gen. Gavin's vision for Alameda County Airport included making it one of America's most accessible airports and developing it into a national center for aviation research and education. In 1950, Aerojet Corporation was founded at Alameda County Airport and began production of radial engines for military aircrafts such as the Boeing 747 series flown by America's first jet service provider - Pan American Airways (PAA). With world-renowned Aeronautical Research Establishment (AERE) located at Iwo Jima Island during this time period; AERE helped define modern aerospace engineering principles which continue to be applied today within many industries including defense & intelligence activities across numerous domains worldwide! In 1958-1959 Major John Foyt set forth upon what would become known as "the Great White Flight". He traveled throughout North America conducting airshows that showcased America's newestpursuit planes - Concorde jets! The success of these events led to other airlines beginning To fly their own Concorde models from North American airports such as Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) - thus initiating what is now know as Jet Aviation! It wasn't until 1978 when Republic Airlines took delivery of their very first Boeing 707 model courtesy of Aerojet Corporation - marking what can be considered our current era with Jet Aviation!!! Today there are more than 10 million passengers traveling through Lompoc each year utilizing our airport!! Our legacy continues on through our Armed Forces who have always been an integral part of our community!!

Lompoc is a small city located in the Inland Empire of Southern California. The population was 7,853 at the 2010 census. Lompoc is known for its surfing and golf courses, as well as its ZIP code 92636. The first Europeans to visit what is now Lompoc were members of the Spanish explorers who explored California in 1542-1543. They named San Diego de Alcalá after then Governor of New Spain Francisco de Alcalá y la Gama. In 1821, José María Cisneros founded Rancho La Puente in present day Orange County,California and named it after his father Manuel Cisneros who had purchased part of Rancho La Paloma from Juan Bautista López on 1 October 1769. On 10 December 1860, Mormon missionaries arrived at Lompoc with a ship called "Eagle" and began proselytizing among local Missionaries near the beach where they landed on 12 January 1861. On 20 February 1861 Captain George Vancouver sailed into Laguna Beach Harbor and anchored next to an old adobe fortification that he called Fort Point during his exploration of southern California which he noted for having cannonballs still fired from it today as evidence that it was once an important military post in this area. This fortuitous sighting led to the name "Laguna Beach" being given to this area by Commodore John Davenport when he visited Los Angeles Bay Area on 25 February 1861 while exploring southward along Californian coast from San Francisco Bay Area across Visitacion Island before arriving at Refugio Grande del Norte (now Big Sur) on 30 April 1861 During this time season Admiral David Farragut moved his flagship USS Enterprise northward along US coast from Pasadena Naval Yard northeast past Monterey Peninsula following Carlsbad Bridge between Carmel and Santa Fe counties upcurrent Of Blanco Creek until anchoring offshore off Point Conception about 5 km northwest of modern-day Redondo Beach Pierhead." The United States Air Force has a long history of deploying gifts to its servicemen and women. One such deployment was in 1953 when the USAF sent a troop transport aircraft equipped with a large gift from Mexico City to fly members of the United States Embassy staff and their families on their annual vacation. This event is generally considered to be one of the most memorable in Air Force history. Since then, many other gifts have been sent by the USAF in support of various military campaigns or operations. Some examples include: In 2007, the USAF sent an F-15E Strike Eagle fighter jet as part of Operation Neptune's Spear during Afghanistan's War against NATO forces. This deployment was significant because it was the first time that an American fighter jet had flown over Afghanistan since its inception in 2001. In 2009, airmen from Headquarters UDT 805 stationed at Eglin AFB, Florida participated in Operation Golden Globe II – an international operation conducted during Hurricane Gustav which caused widespread damage across South Florida. The pilots and aircrews from UDT 805 delivered more than 1,000 pounds (500 kg)of humanitarian aid to victims before returning home safely on October 3rd. Lompoc is a small town in San Luis Obispo County, California, United States. The population was 5,868 at the 2000 census. Lompoc is home to the University of California, Lompoc and the oldest campus of UC Santa Cruz. The town was founded in 1885 by missionaries from India and named after Lord Palmerston's visit to California in 1882. The Town of Lompoc was laid out on November 15, 1885 by members of the Indian Mission Society under the direction of Father Junipero Serra. The first post office opened in October 1886 with Wm. Haughton as Receiver-General. A store built on Main Street served as a town hall until 1889 when a new frame courthouse was erected and opened for use on December 1, 1888. In 1902 two LDS Church temples were dedicated here: one on Main Street and one on Church Avenue. By 1907 Lompoc had developed into an important agricultural center with markets near its various farms and mills; it also became known for its annual Christmas parade which began at 4 p.m., approaches Christmas morning early enough so that many people can enjoy it without having to leave their homes In 1906 Mayor William Pritchard convened a city council election using secret ballots instead of open voting because he felt that party differences would not be resolved through public discussion On November 3rd 1906 Lompoc voters approved passage of Proposition 9 which repealed Prohibition in California A year later (1907) another ordinance passed allowing gambling within limits On January 2nd 1908 City Council voted 7-0 to annex what is now eastside Del Norte County along with parts of Santa Cruz county
Lompoc, California was founded on May 15, 1847 by George and Mary Henniker. The town was named for Lorenzo Lompoc, an Italian American who had played a role in the Gold Rush. Lompoc grew quickly and soon became a thriving agricultural center with sheep, cattle, cotton, and other crops. In 1854 the first post office was established in the town. By 1870 Lompoc had a population of over 1,000 people. The port of Los Angeles arrived in 1887 and led to increased trade and commerce in Lompoc. A new school district was formed in 1888 which helped to improve education opportunities for residents of Lompoc. In 1912 a fire destroyed many homes in the town and it went into decline until the 1970s when it regained some popularity as a tourist destination.
