The United States Army was founded in 1846 as the Second Infantry Regiment of California. The regiment served in the Mexican-American War (1846-48) and the American Civil War (1863-65). As part of the Union army, the 2nd Infantry Regiment fought at Bull Run, Antietam, Fredericksburg and Chancellorsville. Upon its return to California in 1865, the regiment was redesignated as Company A in Lompoc. The company served with distinction during World War I (1914-18) and World War II (1939-1945). In 1946, Company A's lineage continued when it became a unit of the California National Guard. Today, Company A is headquartered in Lompoc and provides support to local law enforcement agencies across Northern California.

The original inhabitants were two groups: the Lupe and ohlone people. The Lupe arrived from central Mexico about 1250 AD and likely named their community after an open-air market they saw near Mission Valley. By 1800 AD, the Ohlone had spread throughout present-day Southern California and may have named their village for its location on hills overlookingLOS ANGELES In 1821, Mexican Governor Manuel Micheltorena granted land to three Anglo men – George Ennis, David Roberts and James Irvine – for a town called Colusa. However, when it came time for building cemeteries, only Ennis could bring his own mason carpenter’s workshop with him so he built the first burial ground (enclosed with stone walls) in what is now Lompoc on April 15th of that year. For many years thereafter this was considered Colusa’s only cemetery….. [1] Around 1850 however there began to be an influx of Chinese immigrants who were brought over by entrepreneurs interested in gold mining………. [2] The Chinese Cemetery Association formed in 1853 to help manage and maintain Chinese Cemetery sites across Orange County…………………………………………………………….. [3] In 1902 William Sanger developed a saltwater shipping line between Los Angeles and Long Beach which led to increased demand for goods transported by ocean steamers from inland ports such as San Francisco; during Prohibition this increased demand led to a decline inriver trade rates which caused shipyards along the coast of Southern California to shutter operations due to customer competition…..[4] At some point prior to 1920 Lompoc became part of Riverside County…………………. Lompoc is a census-designated place (CDP) in San Luis Obispo County, California, United States. The population was 9,521 at the 2010 census. Lompoc is located about 33 miles north of statewide Torrance and about 35 miles east of San Diego. The first known inhabitants of what is now Lompoc were the Tongva people who ranched and fished on the coast from AD 1000 to 1300. In 1853, Mexican land grantee José Ceballos donated 12 acres (4 hectares) to James Irvine for $200. In 1858, American citizens Hernando de Soto and William Heath bought 2 1/2 acres (1 hectare) from Ceballos for $10. The town began to grow rapidly with the arrival of railroad entrepreneurs in 1869 and 1870 under the name of Iturbide Station. In 1888, John Brougham donated 6 acres (2 hectares) to create a small town square called Brougham Square after his late father General Sir John Hope Brougham who served as Governor of British Honduras during its Spanishperiod occupation between 1827 and 1830. When it became apparent that Mission San Francisco had outgrown its original boundaries in 1909, Mayor Pedro Ortiz proposed annexing nearby Pismo Beach which would have given Lompoc an extra two square miles (6 square kilometers). The proposal met stiff opposition from voters who believed that annexing Pismo Beach would only add another suburban development on their rural landscape; however, annexation passed by a narrow margin with 53% in favor over 47% against. In 1916 when Mission San Francisco closed due to financial difficulties within 10 years despite having been founded in 1782 as one of Californias most advanced missions—a trend among many Californian Missions—Lompoc formally annexed Pismo Beach into its city limits becoming the second largest resident community within city limits behind Torrance with a population exceeding 20,000 by 1920s standards A post office operated at Iturbide Station until it was discontinued on December 15th 1912 because postal rates had increased so much since 1911 that even though letters could be sent anywhere in California they cost twice as much as they did before which limited mail distribution throughout California outside Santa Barbara county . A new post office was opened at Lompoc on October 15th 1913 named after Hector García Manzanares who served as Postmaster general for allOf Northern California from 1915-1918
