Coffee has been enjoyed by people around the world for centuries. The first coffee beans were grown in Ethiopia and roasted in Sumatra, Indonesia. In 1922, Dutch traders on a ships journey to Java special ordered three types of coffee beans, one from each of the four regions where it was grown: Java, Sumatra, Sulawesi, and Borneo. The first shipment of Columbian Coffee brought with it new discoveries that would have a significant impact on the development of coffee and its production countries. After Columbus came ashore in 1492 in what is now Panama City and discovered America’s new landmass, he brought back plants (coffea) with him when he returned home. One Hundred years later we still enjoy a cup of Joe every morning all over the world! However, Lompoc had its start as a small farming town located about 30 miles southeast of San Luis Obispo on SR 98 between Pismo Beach and Atascadero Creek which became known as CoffeeTown because so much coffee was grown hereabouts. The early days at Lompoc were difficult because there was no water available to grow coffee; rather they relied upon irrigation systems carried over from other parts of California. It wasn’t until 1876 thatFilter Press began growing coffee hereabouts; however, this little-known historical footnote really didn’t take off until after World War II when several mills closed down due to technological advances made in the Roasting Industry. By 1951 our local roaster had become well-established with more than twenty different brands represented including Arista®, Starr®, AeroPress®, Columbia Coffee™ products and more! Our community has taken great pride in being an important part of both our local economy as well as global espresso culture!

Lompoc is a city in Monterey County, California, United States. The population was 25,714 at the 2010 census. Lompoc is located on the Salinas River and is part of the San Francisco Bay Area. The first European to visit what is now Lompoc was Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo in 1542. The Mission San Francisco de Asís was founded in 1797 by Father Junípero Serra and named for José Chávez y Alvarado, viceroy of Peru who had died suddenly two years earlier. What would become Lompoc was platted in 1853 as a town site on land that had been donated by Felipe Guerra to the Franciscan friars. William Irvine built an adobe mission-style chapel here in 1858 and named it after his father-in-law, Bishop José Gomez de la Vega. In 1865, Alfred Pfeiffer opened a bakery here that became one of California's largest commercial enterprises (the old bakery building still stands). In 1896Pacific Gas & Electric Company began service to Lompoc with its then new Market Street station; Market Street remains an active retail corridor today with several small businesses located within walking distance of the station including Bottega Italiana (now Macy's) and Filene's Department Store. Pacific Gas & Electric company merged with Edison Electric Company in 1951 forming PG&E which still operates present day Market street station today as Southern California Edison Co.'s retail outlet providing electrical services to most of Northern California from its headquarters at 350 Harrison St., also known as "The Gov't Palace". Pacific Gas & Electric company went bankrupt during the early 1990s and ceased operations within 5 years making way for current market street property owner Southern California Edison Co which provides electrical services only to portions of northern CA from their current HQ location at 350 Harrison St., also known as "The Gov't Palace"
