Lompoc, California is a small town in the San Luis Obispo County, California region. The population was 1,828 at the 2010 census. It is located on the east side of San Luis Obispo Bay and has a long history as an agricultural and ranching center. Lompoc is also known for its annual "Strawberry Festival" which takes place in early July. The first settlers in what is now Lompoc were Native Americans who lived along the coast of Santa Cruz County. They hunted seals, sea lions, and whales off of their island home and traded goods with people on other islands in the bay. In 1821, some men from Santa Clara County went out to look for land to purchase near where Lompoc now stands. One of these men was John Cranch who named his new tract Rancho Rincon de la Salinas after his ancestor's farm near there. The first post office was established at Rincon de la Salinas on July 25, 1825 by Juana Carrillo y Valdez with Wm Henshaw as its first postmaster. By 1836, Rincon had 5 settlers and 2 wagons residency permits). In 1851 Governor Juan Bautista Alvarado granted a charter to build Mission San José de los Reyes (now part of downtown) on the present day site of Lompoc City Hall; it would be one of several Missions founded in California during this time including La Purísima Concepción (1853), Nuestra Señora del Carmen (1860), Nuestra Señora de las Mercedes (1870), Don Manuel Dominguez Alcalde Parral (1906) and Mission Dolores Alcalde Parral (1910). Many members of the alcaldes' families became landowners around this time: Francisco Javier Bermudez Gómez ranched parts of eastern Santa Barbara County while Andrés Pico began farming portions southwest of Lompoc on Isla Presidencia before becoming owner-operator of 101 Rancho Seco west-northwest of downtown between 1951-1959; Vicente Martinez took over operations from him about 1957; Fernando Romero developed Avila Canyon just north/eastof downtown then sold it to Harry Fenton in 1961; Jesús Sánchez opened Nuevo Rey Bakery & Cafe adjacent to Goodyear tire store southeast corner Main Street in 1966; Alfredo Ramos reopened El Toro cafe southwest corner Main Street later that year followed by Don Valentín Ramos’s Tacos en el Rio restaurant & bar across from Safeway grocery store northeast corner Main Street in 1978 followed by Carlos Ramos’s Casa Azulejo restaurant & bar across from Super 8 motel east shoreline opposite sheriff's substation north side starting 1980; Mario Gomez opened Los Olivos pizza place east end opposite sheriff's substation south side 1986 - making Lomox finally a city! Lomox Consolidated Gold Mines was organized Februarv 15th 1902 when ranchers bought claim #3 from Mexicans working camp name “El Centinela” about 10 miles northwestSW San Luis ObispoBay area now part town . Mining started september 1903 when men came upriver looking for gold but no gold found so men quit . Men worked 7 days per week without pay then got $2 per day plus board but people didn’t like it so they stopped . Worked again Nov 1898 turned silver prospectors brought water canoes down river 50 feet then used smelters built at old Navy Yard lot next door called “Los Olivos” which done produced lead alloys Sep 1899 thru Mar 1900 under new management name Eldorado Mining Company with Captains Caballeromos et al .. mining stopped because high cost too much money so company closed Apr 1901 finally abandoning claims #1 through 4 years earlier

At its peak, Lompoc had a population of around 20 people. Lompoc began as an agricultural center with dairy and hay production being the primarystay of its economy until the early 21st century when manufacturing became more prevalent. A number of industries have been located in or near Lompoc over the years including food processing, engineering, printing and publishing, and homebuilders/cabinetmakers. Over time, many residents have come to identify with what has become known as "the North Coast." This moniker has helped contribute to understanding and support for local community events like annual Thanks for AlltheFish Days Parade which takes place on Saturday afternoon at city hall Plaza de la Granja (formerly Riverside Park), followed by food vendors from throughout Northern California; live music from acoustic guitarists/vocalists down to children's bands during summertime festivals such as Fourth of July picnic; numerous art exhibitions throughout year at various galleries and museums within walking distance; annual Stampede parade complete with rodeo atmosphere on Saturday morning preceding Main Street event;Hollywood Bowl game every fall; KFC plantation workers' holiday dinner held annually on Labor Day night surrounded by palm trees outside stadium gates where guests are treated to a variety of dishes including southern cooking done right at home free from chemicals or restaurant standardsAiello Farms Flea Market open daily 9am-6pm
Lompoc, California is located in the southern San Joaquin Valley, about 40 miles north of Fresno. The town was founded by Mexicans on a small parcel of land near the present-day communities of Lodi and Menlo Park in 1881. In 1912, Lompoc became part of the new city of Los Angeles. In 1927, Lompoc was renamed after its founder, José Gomez Lompoc.
