The history of coffee in Long Beach, California can be traced back to 1903, when two Dutch farmers set up a small farm on the present-day corner of First and Pacific Streets. The first coffee was grown on the property by Mr. and Mrs. C.H.Gouda, who sold it to Guggenheim Coffee in 1912. In 1916, the Goudas moved their business to Fourth Street and began marketing their beans through a small store called The Dutchman's Shop. From then until 1957, The Dutchman's Shop was located at 201 N Main St., across from freeway 10A (the original Long Beach Boulevard). In 1957, the Goudas' business relocated to Whatcom Avenue inLong Beach and continued operations as part of that location's large grocery chain known as B&Q (later JB Hi-Fi). In 1984, B&Q merged with Safeway and became Safeway/Albertsons Corporation. Albertsons Corporation went bankrupt in 1988 and its assets were sold to Jardine & Hastings Incorporated (J&H) which reopened the Whatcom Avenue store under new ownership in 1990 as an independent supermarket chain known as Safeway/Albertsons All American supermarket subsidiary - later renamed Jacks Retail Corp., Inc., before being acquired by Kroger Co.,Inc.) In 1998, Safeway/Albertsons parent company Jardine & Hastings Incorporated merged with Kroger Co.,Inc.) to form Kroger Supermarket Company Inc.). With that merger came increased competition for sales space within supermarkets; however, Albertsons still operated one store located at 224 S Broadway in Long Beach until its closure in 2006. That same year saw the opening of Jardine & Hastings' last store outside of Los Angeles County - a location inside Westfield Santa Ana mall - making Albertans Institute Store No longer operational after more than 150 years of retail presence throughout Southern California! Today there are only a few remnant stores remaining open throughout Los Angeles County including: one located at 9990 Roscoe Ave., Thousand Oaks; another at 11055 Ventura Blvd.; one located at 12363 Lankershim Blvd.; and finally one remaining flagship store - formerly known as The Dutchman's Shop - located at 201 N Main St./ Fourth Street in Long Beach

In 1847, Jose Santos Cabrillo landed at Isla de Nuestra Señora de los Pitcairnios on May 7th from his ship " Santa Margarita". He claimed Pinkney Island as part of his new land grant so named after him since he had found pink petunias there (a type of flower). The town that developed around Cabrillo's landing island may have been called Isla Cabrillo until about 1870 when it became known as Rancho San Pedro de Long Beach because ranching operations began there by José Pico Durán y Pavón who also owned Rancho Los Nietos east of present-day downtown Long Beach. On October 25th, 1881, during the early days of Southern California Edison Company electric service, a field party led by George Westinghouse went out onto Torrance Boulevard in search for ores worth electricening onshore at what is now North Harbor (now Harbor Freeway) across from our current naval base ashore then known as Point Conception Estuary just south (east)of present-day Interstate 5/US 101 intersection then known as First Street Bridge Road or simply “the road” north (west)of today’s South Pier Drive at Indian Wells Marina next to Harbor Freeway entrance & North Shoreline Aquarium before finally reaching our current site whereupon Field PartyChargedElectricityForFirstTimeInLA Area
