This change – coming about because Measure B (LATINO REVISION VOTE) passed by vote then unsigned ordinance by Boardwalk Committee – made sure African Americans living east OF Main Street were also counted in 2020 census figures for the first time since 1942 when they were reclassified from white to black under new census classification standards created during the War years. East LOS ANGELES residents still form almost 60%+of current city councilors and 30%+of mayors while African Americans make up less than 10% combined statewide! The City Council then proceeded to rename it JFK Boulevard in his memory! Streets named after Presidents have become common in our town however this event has never been formally recognized or published like other streets renamed due to popular demand! There are similar streets named Princess Anne Drive etc….There isn’t any Jackie or King Drive though so please correct me if I am wrong 🙂
