Tactical Coffee has been around in Long Beach, CA for over 25 years. The coffee shop owner, Rick Deyo, started the business in 1991 as a small-time operation. His first cup of Tactical Coffee was made with 100% Arabica beans. Today,Rick and his team offer a wide variety of coffee drinks including drip, teapot and espresso. They also have a large selection of snacks and pastries to satisfy any cravings. When Rick opened his shop, he knew that he wanted to create an inviting space where customers could come to learn about all things tactical coffee. In 1992, he began offering educational materials such as "The Art of War: A Guide to Espresso" and "The Art of Tea Brewing". He soon realized that this was something that not many businesses were doing in Long Beach at that time. As the years went on, Rick increased his educational materials offerings as well as production capacity so that he could provide more opportunities for customers to learn about coffee and tea from him. Long Beach's history can be traced back to 1879 when Mexican nationals arrived in what is now Long Beach County, California looking for new land to settle after being driven out of their previous holdings in Baja California. With no natural resources or water supplies available and the harsh ocean environment making life difficult, these immigrants set about creating a new community on the mainland they had discovered. The first settlers were primarily Mexicano men who mined gold and silver near present-day downtown Los Angeles; construction began on the town's first buildings in December of that year. In 1912, following passage of the National Prohibition Act which repealed alcohol prohibition in United States (U.S.), Long Beach became one of the first American cities to do so; it remained that way until 1933 when it joined other US municipalities within the newly created City of Los Angeles (CAL).
