The United States ArmyDeployed gift history in Los Alamitos, California began with the organization of the military in 1846. The military was formed to support the needs of the nation during its early days. The first unit to be organized was Company I, 2nd Battalion, 13th Regiment of Infantry. In 1847, Lieutenant Colonel James Fenton organized Company K from disbanded companies in Santa Barbara County. This company served as a support battalion for General George Custer during his battle at Little Bighorn. From 1850-1851, a detachment of Company A from San Diego County served with General Andrew Jackson as part of his staff on his march through Georgia and Tennessee.
In 1861, the 1st Regiment California Volunteer Infantry was established in Los Angeles County and soon afterwards Companies G and H were added to form a regiment numbering 12 companies total. On July 4th 1861, Companies K and L were transferred from Sacramento County to join this regiment at Fort Tejon under Captain John Waddell commanding. That same year also saw the organization of Battery F (Folsom) which was located at what is now known as Camp Pendleton on Angel Island within present day San Pedro Bayou Park south of downtown Los Alamitos. Battery F operated against Mexican forces during the American-Mexican War while stationed at Fort Tejon before being redeployed to Presidio Heights in February 1862 following Confederate attack on that fort.
On August 25th 1862 an order arrived from General Robert Ewell ordering all artillery batteries within 3 miles east of Petersburg to open fire upon any enemy troops or vessels sighted on shorelines above Albemarle Sound between Elizabeth City Point and Yorktown Point. As a result battery calls went out throughout much of Southern California reporting sightings up until November 8th when orders arrived not to fire any longer due to lack of evidence.

One significant development that took place during Los Alamitos' time as an unincorporated community was the construction of Interstate 5 around 1990-1991 which helped reduce commuting times between Riverside and Los Angeles by about two hours. also important during this time period were several new schools constructed within walking distance or less of downtown: Houghton Middle School (which opened in fall 1990), Ransom High School (opened in fall 1991), and Watts Elementary School (opened in fall 1992). These schools quickly became critical elements in helping drive growth into downtown Los Alamitos while still maintaining a degree of independence from government control. Today, downtown LA has become one of most vibrant neighborhoods within city limits in Southern California; Referred to as "The Entertainment District", it features several high-end restaurants and nightlife options, such as Microsoft's BUILD nightclub/restaurant complex and LOEWE Theatre complex - both formerly occupied by Regal Cinemas - as well as several dozen small businesses housed within loft buildings overlooking Central Avenue. This lively atmosphere has attracted many young professionals who are searching for vibrant communities where they can raise their families without feeling crowded or constrained by towering apartment complexes or busy streetscapes typical among larger metropolitan areas outside their backyard
