The Los Alamitos National Guard was organized in 1920. The first commander of the guard was Major General John A. Haggerty, who served until 1924. From 1928 to 1932, the commanding officer was Lieutenant Colonel George W. Laughlin. In 1934, the command structure changed when Captain James Fenton became Commanding Officer and Major General Robert P. Selfridge took over from him in 1936. In 1938, Captain Harry Ahern became Commanding Officer and Major General Cecil Burt succeeded him in 1940. In 1945, Captain Reuben Moller became Commanding Officer and Major General Forrest Sherman took over from him in 1946-47. Commodore John J. Pickering served as Commanding Officer from 1951 to 1955 before being replaced by Commodore Jeffrey Condon who served until 1957-58 when he resigned due to health problems which led to his appointment as Superintendent of Schools for Alameda County effective December 1, 1958

Los Alamitos is a city in San Luis Obispo County, California, United States. It was founded in 1867 by George S. Goodwin and named for the two Los Alamitos nuclear reactors that were built there in the 1940s. The population of Los Alamitos was 20,898 at the 2000 census. The city is located on the banks of the San Joaquin River, about 15 miles (24 km) east of San Francisco and 10 miles (16 km) southeast of Fresno. It is bordered to the north by Arcadia Park and to the south by Isla Vista. North of downtown are suburbs including Westport and Porter Ranch which have since annexed parts of downtown; South of downtown are neighborhoods such as Hawthorne Heights and Pico Rivera which have not annexed any parts of downtown but continue to maintain their own independent identities. Downtown Los Angeles has been gradually annexing older neighborhoods into its boundaries since it became an urban area in 1920; however, much part of what is now Downtown Los Angeles was once part of Las Colinas or Spanish Town which was first settled in 1769 by Junípero Serra et al.. There has never been a full annexation without consent from both sides involved so this process remains unresolved today. In 1867 George Goodwin surveyed land around what would become Los Alamitos Valley below his reactor site on Monterey Bayou opposite Santa Clara University; he named it after his twonuclear reactors – "Los Alamitos" meaning "the two mountains" – because they were then being built near where he stood today on Montezuma Creek just upstream from present-day East Campus at UCSB with immediately adjacent Grant Hall on one side and Present Hall across Montezuma Creek on another side). When completed, these reactors produced more than 1 million kW/hatts (2 x 100 MW), making them some of the most powerful ever built at that time and opening up new possibilities for electricity production even beyond small towns like ours anywhere near those resources!(See also: post WWII Atomic Energy Commission report.) In 1868 Goodwin's associates JF Seaton & Cushman laid out streets gridwise within blocks surrounding his reactor site with four streets running north-south-west each intersecting one street perpendicular to it; this system eventually became known as grids due to its resemblance to a playing field.(See also: map accompanying article .) The first store opened here in 1868 called The Grapes - still open today as an independently owned business - soon followed by The Harvey House (1870), The Armoury (1872), The Masonic Lodge No 1 (1875), etc.; all within blocks bounded only by Second Street between Warehouse Row on one side and First Street between Railroad Tracks on the other side.(See also: photo accompanying article .) By 1870 there were over 50 businesses operating hereabouts providing goods and services to residents living within 2 miles radius including grocery stores, dry goods stores, laundry facilities, doctors office appointments etc.;(see map accompanying article .) With development came additional residential lots being sold throughout town becoming available for purchase or donation leading up to what we know now as Downtown Los Angeles’ original crescent shape.(See photo accompanying article .) Today's core areas around Plaza de la Constitución infant care center/schools annexations along Miracle Mile Boulevard NE., eastside Pioneer Square neighborhood annexation along Harbor Drive NE., westside Powerhouse Neighborhood Annexation along Western Avenue NE., lower eastside Watts district annexation along Washington Boulevard Northeast corner - forming what we currently call 'South Central LA'.( See photo accompanying article .) However despite efforts made over many years various aspects remain unresolved such as governance issues surrounding interlocking community boards responsible for overseeing activities both inside & outside OF Downtown LA - see recent articles about 'Mayor Moonves' power grab & LASA lawsuit )'; public opposition exists towards large scale redevelopment plans proposed for portions northeast & southwest include surface parking Lots at Union Station BART station . These projects would replace aging housing stock (& traffic) with massive highrise buildings creating thousands upon thousands cf jobs affecting everyone who lives near these developments regardless tribe or religion etc... yet no progress has been made despite numerous meetings held throughout 2016 ....
