The United States Navy deployed gift history in Los Alamitos, California on Christmas Eve of 1946. The USS Montero (AKA the “Albuquerque”) was decorated with a white and green uniforms the colors of the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis, Maryland which had recently graduated its first class of cadets. After flying over Honolulu Harbor, the USS Montero christened her new home at Kodiak Bay on December 25th 1946 by Commander First Class Harry A. Welch III and Rear Admiral C.W. “Buzz” Aldrin who served as sponsor along with Mrs. Neil Armstrong who donated a copy of her book "To The Moon And Back" to be given to future astronauts when they landed on the moon using Apollo 11 spacecrafts commanded by astronaut Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin Jr..
