On December 5, 1948, the United States Air Force deployed a gift to Los Altos residents in commemoration of the city's victory over Japan during World War II. The gift was a Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress bomber Aircraft Model "41-1939" donated by the aircraft manufacturer Boeing. The plane had been used by the military as an aerial bombardment and reconnaissance tool during World War II and was now being offered for sale as part of an air force donation program. The donation came at a time when Los Altos was experiencing increased population growth due to postwar migration from other nearby cities. The bomber was christened "John F." and served as the centerpiece of a public celebration that took place on December 5th, 1948. In attendance were Mayor Royce Wojak and City Councilman Gordon Hoyer with representatives from Boeing, local Aerojet Rocketdyne subcontractors, and local businesses. The bomber flew into downtown Los Angeles arriving just after midnight before takeoff for its journey northward to Alameda County along I-880 near San Francisco. After landing at Oakland Airport late evening on December 6th, it made its way back down Interstate 580 until reaching Los Altos just before dawn on December 7th. During its stay in Los Altos, John F. reached heights of up to 10,000 feet while providing striking visuals from above against neighboring hillsides in what is now known as "the Great View". Onlookers could see participate in battle throughout 1944 including Operation Overlord; however this would be John F.'s last combat mission as he crashed fatally into terrain near Cloverdale shortly after takeoff on January 3rd 1945 without mortar or fighter support due to engine failure.

Los Altos is a city in San Mateo County, California, United States. The population was 7,609 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Silicon Valley region of California. Los Altos was founded in 1879 by brothers Edward and George Mclntyre. They named their new town after Mount Baldy, in Massachusetts. The Mclntyre brothers started a lumber business and built a sawmill on the banks of the Yerba Buena Creek. In 1906 they built a second sawmill and became one of the first companies to use air-cooled turbines for grinding milling materials. In 1915 they bought an adjacent piece of land and began to develop it into a large agricultural center with fields that can still be seen today: citrus groves, cornfields, dairy farms, etc.. In 1955 Leland Stanford Junior donated land to create Moffett Field Air Force Base which has played a significant role in American aviation history since World War II. Today Los Altos is home to numerous high-tech companies such as Hewlett-Packard (HP), Intel (INTC), Facebook (FB), Google (GOOGL), Apple Inc., and Oracle Corporation as well as many other small businesses and organizations associated with technology development. In recent years Los Altos has become known for its fine dining establishments including The Ritz-Carlton restaurants in downtown Los Angeles and The Wellesley Center Hotel & Spa on El Camino Real near Interstate 280

In 1995, another Boeing 707 cargo plane is Deployed for Operation Joint Endeavor contribution to Bosnia and Herzegovina Earthquake Relief Program. In 1999 and 2000 respectively, two Lockheed Martin L-1011 freighters are Deployed aboard USS JohnF Kennedy (CVN 78) and USS George H W Bush (CVN 71) for humanitarian purposes during Kosovo War and Yugoslavia Emergency Operations Plan phases 1 through 3 respectively. Since deployment began on October 1st 1958 all gifts have been delivered by propeller driven C-47 Globemaster III airframes or C130 Hercules transports
Los Altos is a small town in the San Francisco Bay Area of California, United States. It straddles the border of Contra Costa County to the east and Alameda County to the west. The population was 23,651 at the 2010 census. It is part of the San Francisco–Oakland–Hayward Combined Statistical Area. The first people who lived in Los Altos were Native American indigenous peoples who occupied land that now includes most of Contra Costa County. The creek that runs through LosAltos formed from two other creeks which meandered together near where modern-day streets run. One stream ran north-south while the other flowed east-west. When these two streams combined, they created what we now know as Los Altos Creek. In 1839, Spanishman José Antonio de Valdivia discovered Gold Mines in what is now Contra Costa County when he rode his horse over some quartz rocks on his way back from exploring Rancho El Sobrante south of Martinez (now Pleasanton). Upon returning home, he reported this discovery to Hidalgo de la Vega y Monterrey, Governor of New Spain for further investigation and excavation but no exploration took place because there was no gold available for sale or extraction at that time within present day Contra Costa and Alameda Counties! Gold prospectors started arriving in large numbers beginning in 1848 and soon began building houses on much of what is now western Contra Costa County overlookingLOS ALTOS Creek valley with its beautiful mountainsides including Mount Diablo to the North and Mt Tamalpais acrossslants To The SouthEast!!! In order to process all this new wealth quickly and efficiently many small mines were opened up resulting in heavy deforestation along with loss of precious forested watersheds essential for watershed health & water quality!!!!!! People here today are still trying to piece together how it all worked out…..some say by chance; others say due diligence by those pioneering miners/settlers before any government oversight happened……….but regardless how it all went down (or didn’t), one thing is for sure: These early pioneers have left their mark on our community so deeply that their descendents continue living here today…………………..
Los Altos is a city in Alameda County, California. The population was 33,821 at the 2010 census. It is located on the slopes of Mount Diablo, east of Berkeley and north of Oakland. Los Altos was founded in 1868 by John Sutter and his brother David as a small farming community on Rancho San Lorenzo de Atascadero. In 1875, Sutter Cadillac Company founder James Wickersham purchased 2,500 acres (1 km²) of land adjacent to Los Altos for $5 per acre ($10 per hectare). In 1888, Wickersham donated another thousand acres (100 km²) to the city for use as open space.
