Los Altos is a city in Contra Costa County, California, United States. The population was 41,821 at the 2010 census. It is part of the San Francisco Bay Area. The first coffee beans were grown on small farms near Almaden in 1847. At that time, water was scarce and coffee was ground from whole beans instead of boiled or roasted. In 1868, two men from Spain imported 100 acres (40 hectares) of coffeebush and began processing it into coffee beans. In 1872, Jameson & Sons founded a company to sell coffee through local merchants in Los Angeles County. In 1881, J&J sold its interest in Los Angeles Coffee Company to Mr. John Soper for $12,000 cash. Mr. Soper built a large plantation at Moraga Valley and adopted the name "Los Altos Coffee Co." In 1905 they merged with the American Tobacco Company to become "United Cigar Merchants Inc." They continued to produce cigars until 1931 when they merged with Field's Cigars Corporation to form Field's-Hutchess Cigars Corporation
Los Altos is a small town located in the San Francisco Bay Area of California. The population was 26,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the East Bay Municipal District. The name "Los Altos" comes from two Spanish words "los altos" meaning "the high" and "alturas," meaning summits or hills. When Europeans first explored this area they called it Monterey because of its high hills. In 1853, prospectors discovered gold near Los Altos and quickly became one of the most important towns in that region. Soon there were milling companies, stores, churches, schools and other businesses here. The growth continued as railroads arrived to bring workers to the mills and mines around Los Altos. By 1915, over 150 businesses had opened up in Los Altos alone! In 1924, when Radio City Music Hall was built onsite in downtown Los Angeles, many people decided to move to southern California for what would be then the latest stage of American culture and progress! They brought their homes and businesses with them - starting what is now known as Kristin'sTowne (later renamed Westwood Village). In 1933, after years of planning by officials including Mayor George Seaton and Chamberlin himself, Downtown Los Angeles was designated as an official city center! This led to more business development in Downtown Los Altos as well as new housing developments such as Winona Place and Highland Park which continue to thrive today. Today there are still a number of shops and restaurants open along Main Street while also seeing growth in areas such as Stinson Beach Plaza which features an outdoor shopping mall with various retailers including Sears gift store among others. There have been multiple plans put forth over time for redevelopment within Downtown Los Angeles but so far all have fallen through due to lack of funding or opposition from residents who feel their community has been lost without it being revitalized A new plan announced last year by Mayor Eric Garcetti would see sidewalk recreation areas created throughout downtown LA between 4th Street/Metro Center northward until Spring Streets eastward making use of empty storefronts beneath buildings with public access below (a concept similar to New York's Madison Square Garden). However this project has yet to materialize . It should be noted that although much has changed since those early days when LAS went from a small town west of San Francisco into one of America's leading agricultural communities – thanks largely to dedicated citizens like chamberlin – some things haven’t changed all that much either: Despite regularly ranking #1 among “Best Places To Live” by PG&E customers for nearly 30 years (!), LAS remains beholden both municipally (and currently under threat from annexation by Berkeley) and statewide (despite having passed Measure B!), offering little hope for substantive change anytime soon outside politics

In 18th century Europe, coffeehouses were commonplaces where people would come to talk and read newspapers. These cafes were often used as meeting places for traders, artists, lawyers, and other important people. In addition to its importance as a social spot, coffee also had some medical benefits because of the caffeine content of its beans.

The town of Los Altos, California was founded in 1868 by John Sutter and his wife, Mary Ann Sutter. The first post office in the town was established in 1870. The name "Los Altos" means "the high mountains." In 1915, the town became a city with a population of over 60,000 people. The city has had many different names over the years including: Apple Valley (1896-1902), Los Angeles (1881-1946), San Francisco Bay City (1859-1871), Pleasanton (1900-1910), and finally Los Altos. The present name of the city is reflecting its current location as an agricultural and commercial center within the San Francisco Bay Area. Over time, Los Altos has become known for its large number of expensive homes, exclusive schools and hospitals, as well as its beautiful nature scenery. Many famous people have resided or worked in Los Altos including Newton Meares who played baseball for UCLA and Don Quixote author Miguel de Cervantes who owned land near the edge of downtown that served as his estate until his death in 1716
The first permanent European settlement in the area was made by Pedro Fortunato de Mendoza on November 16, 1769. The small party of Spanish soldiers and sailors under the command of Francisco Bautista Alvarado explored and mapped the San Joaquin Valley before arriving at what is now Los Altos. They named their new village Concepción after a convent they had seen in Peru. On January 26, 1776, Mexican forces under Captain Vicente Guerrero attacked an American detachment led by Lieutenant Colonel George Mason at Los Altos. The Americans were successful in driving back the Mexican forces; however, one American officer and six privates were killed and twenty-four others wounded. This event marked the beginning of a long and bloody war between the United States of America and Mexico which would eventually lead to annexation of California by Mexico in 1848. A post office was established at Los Altos on December 12, 1847, with Elisha Pease as its first Postmaster General. In 1860, a depot was built nearpresent day Pleasant Grove for shipment of goods overland from Sacramento to Lodi via Stockton. A railroad was built through Los Altos along this route in 1871; however it failed to take off due to lack of interest from travelers. In 1888 construction began on what is now Palo Alto University; however because of Expo '88 (the largest world exposition ever held), attendance dropped sharply and it wasn't until 1915 that it finally opened its doors to students. In 1922 Pacific Bell constructed a telephone line from downtown San Francisco toLosAltos; however because there was no power available at either location, service only reached east Palo Alto."
