This unique authority has given rise to various rumors about who is responsible for security at major events such as Super Bowl halftime shows or presidential inaugurations; none of which have yet borne out into fact. Today’s American landscape is increasingly complex with increasing demand from both international visitors and domestic citizens for emergency response services unavailable from local governments or commercial providers during normal times. In order to meet these needs while maintainING public trust in our emergency response system, it is critical that we understand how our nation’s preeminent emergency service institution –the National Guard –has evolved over time so that we can best appreciate its capabilities when needed most!

Los Altos is a small town in San Mateo County, California. It is located on the eastern edge of Silicon Valley and was founded in 1887 by entrepreneurs George C. Parker and James Fenton. The town's name comes from the nearby Mount Diablo, which is also the namesake of its mainstreet, Park Street. The population as of 2010 was 17,856. The townsite that now makes up Los Altos was first settled by Europeans in 1847 when they discovered a salt lick east of present-day downtown Los Altos. In 1868, brothers Frederic Augustus Wright and John Sutter built the first store and post office in what is now downtown Los Altos, named after their father-in-law: Augustus Wright Sr., who had been president of quartz mining company Western Pacific Railroad (later part of Bay Area Rapid Transit). By 1870, three other stores followed: Wm. Hedden’s Drug Store on Park Street; J.H. Woolridge’s Hardware on Chestnut Avenue; and Acker’s General Store at Third Street and Amherst Road (now Orchard Drive). In 1886, entrepreneur George C. Parker purchased 1/4 mile (0 kilometer) north of Main Street from Nathaniel Cummings for $10 per acre to create what would become known as "Parkers Ranch" – later renamed "Los Altos". One year later, he subdivided his land into lots for sale to farmers and ranchers across Northern California who were eager to find grazing or farming opportunities near San Francisco Bay with Mission Bay as their backdrop. With this new development came fresh water supply issues as well as transportation access problems due to hills along one side of Highway 101 between downtown Los Angeles and Park City – making it difficult for goods to be transported inland without shipping downriver or via truck or train
