Coffee started being sold fresh at markets throughout London during the 18th century; however, it wasn’t until 1805 when a Dutchman named Hendrik Pauwels opened up one of L.A.'s first Starbucks locations. It was only later that Starbucks began sourcing their beans directly from different plantations all over Latin America (including Brazil). During World War II, Los Angeles was severely impacted by rationing which caused many local businesses to close their doors or go out of business; however, gourmet coffee continued to thrive thanks to veterans who came through the city looking for an opportunity to sell their products hand-to-mouth. After the war ended came new opportunities for restaurateurs who were now able to source quality ingredients not only from around the world but also within Los Angeles itself – this included buying whole bean roasted coffees from farmers near each plantation where they would then roast them into delicious perfection before serving up their finest cups of joe anywhere in town!
