Los Banos is a small town in Kern County, California, United States. The population was 1,574 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Bakersfield–Delano, CA Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settlement in Los Banos was made on July 16, 1847 by seventy-nine men from Chico and Atascadero who had come down the San Joaquin River to prospect for wheat. They named their new community "Banos" after an old Spanish mission in present-day Bakersfield. In 1851, a post office called "Banos" was established and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1912. In 1861, a group of thirty men from Shasta County founded the town of Banning on land that they had bought from Mission Santa Barbara de la Purísima Concepción (later known as Rancho Guadalupe). That same year saw the opening of the first store in Los Banos -owned by Wm. Higginson and Simeon Levy - which soon became one of the most popular businesses in town. By 1870, over 120 stores were operating in Los Banos with a population of 3,000 people. The Panic of 1893 hit Los Banos hard with business booming but little money coming into town to help supported it; some believe this may have been due to high water levels downstream from nearby Hollywood Dam caused by crustal activity during that period of great change throughout California; however there is no proof to support this claim In 1896 Pio Pico became interim governor designate for Kern County following term end for Francisco Fajardo and Tomás Menem's inauguration as president pro tempore; during his brief stay Pio Pico designated two new towns within Kern County: Dos Palmas and Rio Linda near Needles while also creating six Tunnels under Angeles National Forest just beyond downtown Los Banos so more farmers could sell their products directly to consumers without going through wholesalers or middlemen However with these new developments came problems too: rising costs associated with municipal services such as firefighting pumps needed to maintain an efficient water flow through city streets while also maintaining infrastructure used by industry; furthermore sewage systems were not built out until much later when state funding became available The final blow came when fire destroyed most of downtown late 1800s leaving only one tower remaining standing before being replaced by modern amenities including movie theaters etc.; now divided between two districts

The town was established in 1887 by pioneers named Whetstone and Campbell. Los Banos Golf Course opened in 1922 and became one of the most well-known courses in Southern California. In addition to its retail businesses there are also several schools which include Los Banos High School & Middle School as well as West Valley College which offers undergraduate and graduate degrees.
Los Banos was founded in 1887 by Hiram Bingham, a U.S. Army lieutenant colonel and entrepreneur who had moved to California from Vermont. The townspeople named the settlement after their then-recently acquired ranch land in Banbury, England. By 1893, Bingham's business holdings included a flour mill, a sawmill, three grocery stores and two hotels. In 1907, Los Banos became part of the newly created County of San Bernardino.
