The original downtown area still contains many buildings from that period including the old post office building and some market stalls used by merchants during those days on Market Street between First and Second Streets (now Cottonwood). Los Banos is a small city in southern California, located about an hour's drive from the San Fernando Valley. It is the seat of Santa Clara County and was founded in 1887 by John W. The original site for Los Banos was on land that now forms part of Walnut Creek Boulevard, just east of Interstate 680. In 1887, John W. He named his new town after himself – José Angelitos Banos – and donated all of his profits from selling goods he had shipped to Mexico City to finance its establishment as a settlement). Dunn initially developed only agricultural products, but later became interested in retail businesses and started building stores and hotels throughout Santa Clara County. By 1920, when he sold his business interests to Jardine Hutton Holdings Inc., Los Banos had become one of America's leading commercial cities with over 100 independent businesses employing over 120 people.
