Los Banos is a census-designated place (CDP) in Kern County, California, United States. The population was 2,818 at the 2010 census. It is located on the southern edge of Kern County and east of Stockton. The history of Los Banos begins with Rancho Viejo de los Banos, which was granted to José Antonio Meza in 1827 by Governor Manuel Micheltorena. The grant was part of Rancho San Joaquin de Bexar del Norte. In 1853, John Fenton purchased Rancho Viejo de los Banos from José Antonio Meza and built a ranch house there that still stands today. In 1861, following the Mexican–American War, Los Banos became part of California after Mexico ceded it to the United States as part of the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. In 1903, during World War I, General Pershing offered land for cattle drives into and through Kern County if ranchers would fence their lands and provide water supplies for military purposes. A group of men from Los Banos formed theBanano League to promote this offer and raised money for needed fencing materials through sales at fairs throughout Kern County. The first drive occurred in 1916; more than 1 million head were driven across Kern county within six years. In 1923, two brothers named Harry and Donny Meyer acquired what is now known as Rancho Rincon Cubierto (CRNC), which included much of what is now Los Banos CDP. They subdivided their holdings into ranches called Rincones y Refugios (R&Rs). At that time CRNC had an area extending from present-day Hollywood Boulevard south to parts unknown beyond San Bernardino Mountains; it included much or all of present-day Las Vegas Valley north to Yucca Valley and east to portions now known as Desert Hot Springs National Park and Cathedral City south to Menifee Valley northwest to Willow Canyon southeast corner Salinas River valley including most or all current day Fresno County east side Colusa River valley including most or all current day Santa Cruz County west side Nevada State line north side Mono Lake including present day Yosemite National Park northeast corner Big Sur Coast

Los Banos is a small city located in Kern County, California. The population was 1,595 at the 2010 census. It is south of Bakersfield and east of Tijuana. Los Banos was founded on December 16, 1887 by José M. Arguelles and his wife Mercedes Cuevas with the help of five men who pooled their money to buy land for $1 each. The first store opened in 1888. In 1903, Los Banos joined the San Bernardino Valley town of Claremont as one of four towns in Kern County that were chosen to become part of the new City of Bakersfield. On January 1, 1907, Los Banos became an incorporated city with a Mayor-Council system under which it had more power than any other city in Kern County. In 1933, during World War II, Los Banos was one of several cities that received military orders from President Franklin D. Roosevelt to provide goods and services to the war effort including munitions production and transportation. After 1945, Los Banos experienced steady growth as a bedroom community for Bakersfield; however, its economy began to decline after 2000 when oil prices fell and job layoffs followed refinery closures throughout Kern County caused by 2012–15 drought conditions in California On November 15th 2017 LBS residents went without water for over 2 days due to outages from PG&E!
