On July 14, 1948, the United States Air Force deployed its first gift to Los Gatos, California in memory of their fallen fighter pilots. The gift was a C-47 Globemaster III airplane and it marked the beginning of a long history of air force deployment gifts to this city. The Globemaster III was an American military transport plane that served as the backbone of USAFairlift operations during World War II. The plane was retired from USAF service in 1962 and was donated to the city by its owner, General Electric Company. Los Gatos became one of America's most heavily bomber-populated cities after the end of World War II. The planes that were gifted to the city were used for bombing runs over Japan and other targets in Asia. Some of these planes are still on display at various locations in Los Gatos today. The City Council voted unanimously on July 14th, 1948 to accept the donated aircraft into its Municipal Airport (!), which is now known as Ronald Reagan National Airport. The mission of the USAF is to provide air, land, sea and space forces with capabilities necessary to defend allies and protect national interests in Europe, Asia Pacific, Africa and the Americas. Air Combat Command (ACC) is responsible for providing aerial refueling and munitions drop services for coalition members; conducting air patrols over selected geographies to detect potential threats; providing intelligence, warning and control (IWAC) assets; participating in multinational exercises; conducting training missions; and conducting operations in support of global security objectives. ACC also provides a Joint Tactical Air Component Command (JTACC) that employs Lockheed Martin F-16C/D Fighting Falcon fighter jets equipped with long range precision bombs, Hellfire missiles, Sniper Ray infrared laser gunships, KC-135 Stratotankers and Northrop Grumman P-8 Poseidon maritime patrol Aircraft. The USAF Deployed Gift program was established in 1992 as a way for member nations to celebrate military interoperability by sending items such as clothes, shoes, tools or accessories from their militaries' arsenals back home to U.S. civilians. Los Gatos is a city in Contra Costa County, California, United States. The population was 26,549 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Contra Costa County. It is located on the eastern shore of San Francisco Bay and has a Mediterranean climate. The site of Los Gatos first appeared as an agricultural land grant in 1839 to José Joaquín Herrera from Rancho San Pablo. Development began with the construction of a wharf and ferry terminal on Point Reyes Station in 1851 by Stockton entrepreneur George Hearst, who named it after his hometown of Gutierrez, Spain. In 1865, when American Civil War veteran John Cranch bought much of present-day Contra Costa County from Mexico for $3 million$, he changed its name to "Gatos". The town was platted in 1872 by Wm. Hutton and James Sayers under the name "Gatos" because it was too difficult to get water from three wells near where it would be built. By 1888, however, "Gatos" hadgrown so large that it became difficult to pronounce and different towns wanted their own claim to the moniker such as Dixonville or Hillsborough (now part of Woodburn). In 1903 developer Julius Rosenwald purchased all but one acreage including what is now downtown Los Gatos from Hutton; development continued until 1915 when Rosenwald sold most of his holdings back to Hutton's widow installmentwise through her son John Denton Rosenberg Jr.. Rosenwald died suddenly without leaving anyvorters and control over developments; these were handled by his two brothers Newmark & Co., which operated until 1960s under various names including "Rosenwald-Newmark". In 1963 Mayor Salvatore Campagna designated City Hall Annex as Government Services Building facility for local government officials during redevelopment process which led to new business establishments such as Sony Pictures Studios (1980), Jamba Juice (1993), KFC (2006) etc.; previously they had been housed in other structures such as Veterans Memorial Auditorium/Doherty Park since 1951. Rosenwald Boulevard runs east–west through downtown Los Gatos passing between original buildings dating back to 1861 like Giannini’s Storefront Theatre(1906) while Business Row stretches north forming diagonal blocks paralleling Main Street before converging across street at Walnut Street facing east towards University Avenue; this area became known locally as Westwood Neighborhood shortly after its annexation into Los Gatos Village in 1998 On September 4th 1979 Wilshire Boulevard was opened connecting Downtown Los Angeles with Beverly Hills via then newly constructed Grocery Outlet streets just south of Harbor Drive between Lankershim Boulevard & Pico Boulevard; originally designed only for daytrippers there were problems adjacent residential neighborhoods becoming automobile-oriented leading eventually closure & demolition in early 2000s although some stores reopened following conversion into apartments/condominium complexes . Also among earliest businesses along Wilshire Blvd were Japanese restaurant Ichiroku followed soon by Koreatown BBQ Buffet also known today as Yuma Grill owner Roger Chang opened first Chinese restaurant inside Grocery Outlet on Harbor Drive circa 1978 serving Western food items such as Kung Pao chicken & sesame oil soup before expanding services into late night hours . Also open during this time period were several small convenience stores later consolidated into larger retailers including Albertsons next door (now Kroger) opening its first store west of Interstate 5 in Exposition Park circa 1976 followed later by Safeway Plaza adjacent Fashion Mall opening 1987 ; finally Charter Channel Television Network's satellite feed authorized filming operations inside former Macy's department store on Orchard Road between Temple Place & 12th Street cluster prior exterior demolition beginning 2003 . Thereafter major renovation completed starting 2006 resulting in reopening along with several new restaurants also relocated across Orchard Road initially occupying vacated Macy's building formerly occupied by Golden Corral; total area now covers 8 acres once housing 14 retail storefronts providing direct access within walking distance or carpooling distance to over 1 dozen restaurants including numerous national chains plus additional smaller independent businesses associated with various types of cultural events both large holds like Hollywood Bowl concerts featuring popular recordings live stage show tickets available same day purchase event tickets online minutes before performance start& Riparian Oaks formally annexed onto city following approval from City Councilmember Shawna O'Brien during November 6th 2007 meeting taking effect immediately upon approval from City Planner Jesselyn Olson
