Los Gatos is a city located in San Mateo County, California, United States. The population was 73,604 at the 2010 census. It is the second most populous city in San Mateo County after San Francisco. The first Europeans to visit Los Gatos were ranch hands who traveled through the area in 1820. A post office was established at Los Gatos in 1828, and began receiving mail from Santa Clara County as early as 1833. The town was named for Captain Gabriel García Márquez y Crespo, who explored parts of Northern California before his death in 1847 at the age of 25 near present-day Redwood City. In 1876, Sigmund Freud moved to Los Gatos with his family and started a private clinic on First Street east of downtown that became one of the largest psychological practices in North America during its time. In 1902–1903, General Portuguese American War veteran José Amalfitano built a large home on land donated by him near Commercial Drive and Second Street; it served as both an army barracks during World War I and house parties for celebrities such as Douglas Fairbanks Sr., Cole Porter, Bing Crosby and Joan Crawford after they visited Amalfitano's ranch adjacent to his home during their stay in Southern California between trips to Japan or Europe. In 1923 Route 101 was laid out when Caltrans built the new freeway system connecting Silicon Valley with other cities along Interstate 80 (now I-880). The route followed what is now Main Street south from Highway 1 until it crossed State Route 24 north of downtown whereupon it continued south into residential areas until reaching Seventh Avenue northwest of downtown whereupon it turned northeast towards Interstate 280

Los Gatos is a small town in Santa Clara County, California, United States. The population was 7,898 at the 2010 census. It is located on the San Joaquin River and is part of the Silicon Valley area. Los Gatos is one of the most affluent towns in Santa Clara County, with an estimated household income of $115,815 per year as of 2018. The name Los Gatos comes from Spanish settlers who called it "Gatá" meaning "a place for fishing." The first permanent settler in Los Gatos was John Sutter who had land grant from Mission San José de Asís on November 3, 1847. He named his rancho Las Nuevas Aguas y Pescados (The New Aquakes and Fish). Sutter built a log cabin near what is now Main Street in1849-50. He married Maria Antonia Chapin on December 12, 1850 and moved to his new rancho with their two children: Francisco Javier Sutter (born April 15th 1851) and María Luisa Sutter (born October 25th 1853). In 1870 Captain Edward Porter discovered gold near present day downtown Los Gatos when he prospected for gold along Crystal Creek. A group of Englishmen named Moffatt & Bigham decided to build a mining camp at present day Porterville while they explored this potential claim but were not able to find any gold ore. They abandoned their camp in 1870 and returned home after finding no more resources nearby either through exploration or sales by other miners which would have given them large profits had they continued operations; however they lost interest in the prospecting after making little profit over several years despite large investment into equipment including hiring an experienced miner named George Hearn to assay for them although Hearn never found any gold! After losing interest in silver discoveries around Porterville as well as El Sobrante due to disappointing results from their own exploration activities these men founded what became known as the Golden Spike Mining Company Limited with headquarters at 514-516 Main Street later renamed Rockefeller Avenue; which began producing silver bullion for shipment overseas starting February 1st 1876 under contract from London Rothschild Bank Ltd.; increasing production until early 1886 when strike action by local striking workers led management to abandon all operations worldwide resulting in bankruptcy! In 1924 Commodore Perry's ship USS Laramie stopped at anchor off shore while en route back home from Panama City and while ashore during its stay many items associated with American naval history such as cannonsballs attached to masts were exhibited among other artifacts by Commandant JF Latham Forston during a public inspection tour..
