The town quickly became known for its dairy products, wine, and golf courses. Los Gatos was incorporated as a city on December 3, 1912. The city had a population of just over 36,000 people when it was annexed into the larger city of San Francisco on November 15, 1937. The history of Los Gatos can be traced back to 1878 when George and Emma Wigglesworth founded the summer resort of los Gatos Island on Monterey Bay. The couple soon realized that they needed more land to house their visitors so they purchased 6 acres (2 ha) of beachfront property in what is now downtown Los Gatos. Over time, the Wigglesworths developed the island into one of the most popular summer resorts in Northern California with homes designed by architect Elliott & Sons including Aircross condone House which still stands today and has been preserved as an example of Victorian architecture. The first residents of los Gatos were wealthy patrons of prominent local businesses such as Jardine & Mathews who provided them with access to fresh water from underground springs. By 1889, there were 9 homes built on los Gatos Beach with prices ranging from $10 000 to $200 000 per home! During World War I however many families left for fear that war would interrupt their vacation plans or worse; lead poisoning from munitions storage sites near la Jolla could contaminate their food supply moreover air raids made it necessary for many homeowners to evacuate during these tense times! In total 1 372 people left los Gatos between 1914-1945! Additionally during these years some interesting events happened such as when entrepreneur Hiram Sutch opened up his own grocery store at 227 Main Street in 1915 followed by Sam’s Liquor next door which served beer and wine until 1942! In 1928 Mayor John Fenton unveiled HIS new City Hall building located at 400 Main Street which he designed himself! This beautiful structure remains standing today housing both City Hall Services Department (now Planning & Building Services) and the Historical Resources Department (now Library). In 1937 after annexing neighboring cities like Daly City and North San Francisco Los Gatos had a population of just over 36 thousand people making it Californias third largest city after Sacramento and Anaheim according to The Chronicle article “City expands; annexes adjacent towns” written by Bess Fleischer on November 15th 1937 . At this time annexation also brought about changes forlos Gatosi citizenry included incorporation into San Francisco through an act passed by the City Council imposing certain requirements including fire insurance coverage for all citizens within 5 days following commencement of services area operations having been approved by fire chief Harry Dorman; limits placed upon real estate development within municipal boundaries; prohibition against Discrimination against any race or color because thereof being discrimination against other municipally owned properties within said limits” . Despite these regulations new developers quickly began purchasing parcels adjoining las Islas Mañas earning Los Gatanos its moniker – “The Gated Community” even though annexation did not provide perpetual water or sewer serviceability status quo continued until 1965 when Measure Mwas passed providing full electric service throughout cittie spanned 8 miles radius encompassing las Islas Mañas plus outlying areas adding millions more dollars annually to tax coffers thereby generating muchneeded revenue streams currently supporting public Headlights Maintenance Program servicemen present day !

Los Gatos was founded in 1851 by William Folsom and James Waugh as a small town on the eastern edge of San Francisco Bay. The name "Los Gatos" means "the place where there are grapes." The first post office at Los Gatos opened on December 12, 1851. In 1853, George Hearst moved his family to Los Gatos from Stockton and began to develop what would become Hearst Ranch which covered . By 1870, most of the area around present-day Los Gatos had been developed and became part of the new City of Palo Alto with its own government and schools. In 1902, Elihu Root purchased land east of present-day Los Gatos along San Pablo Creek for what would be known as East Palo Alto Airport (now Moffett Field). He also acquired land south of then in an effort to create a more contiguous airport he could control. In 1912, he donated 505 acres (2 km²) to the City for use as open space including much of what now makes up downtown Los Gatos; this included much future development such as Candlestick Park and Shoreline Village. During World War II, parts or all of downtown were destroyed bybombing raids from Japan but were rebuilt quickly after being damaged beyond repair by firebombing from America; today's Downtown LA skyline can be traced back to that rebuilding period. A major expansion project that took place during the late 1990s/early 2000s was when high-density housing developments called Midtown started to sprout up throughout downtown LA – predominantly near Veteran's Memorial Coliseum (then Dodger Stadium), just east off I-880/Palo Alto Avenue; these developments have since turned into one large apartment complex known today simply as Midtown LA. This massive redevelopment project also added some new commercial districts - notably Pioneer Square - within walking distance or short driving distance (<5 minutes away)of almost every significant cultural institution in downtownLA: movie theaters, restaurants, art galleries etc.; making it easier for residents and visitors alike to get around without having to climb hills or walk through dense residential areas
