However, despite these obstacles (and occasional upheavals), small operations continued to thrive until World War II when most coffee production ceased due to rationing. In 1954, Harry Cristobal bought out Jameson & Company and started his own business called Malibu Coffee Roasters which would continue production until 2007 when he sold it all to Nestle SA for $1 billion USD. In 1916, oil millionaire John Drommel bought 5,000 acres along the coast between Ventura Boulevard and Highway 1 for $2 million dollars. He named his property Oil Valley because he thought it would be a good place to drill for oil reserves. However, no wells were drilled until 1975 when two British entrepreneurs named Richard Branson ( founder Virgin Records) and David Geffen (co-founder Warner Bros.) bought land adjoining Drommel's Oil Valley from him. In 1984, Greer Hot Springs Resort opened on some of this old Drommel land which became one of Hollywood's most popular tourist attractions due to its impressive geothermal springs! During World War II, much of Malibu was destroyed by bombing raids by Japanese forces during their invasion of Southern California in 1942. Many homes were destroyed or severely damaged including those owned by Mr. Mulholland and Mrs. Mulholland which are still standing today on their original lots near Topanga Beach south of State Road 15A (now US 101). Of particular interest are Mr. Mulholland's former construction companies - Western Electric Company (WE) and Aladdin Construction Company - which were based in nearby Beverly Hills where many American servicemen lived while they fought in Europe during World War II! After the war ended there continued be widespread destruction throughout southern California but fortunately few homes were lost or damaged since people had already taken up permanent residence within these areas! In 1949, actress Lana Turner purchased 10% interest in Playmates Productions Inc., creator Chuck Jones' company that produced children's cartoons like Tom Yum-Tum and Yogi Bear!, from United Artists Corporation after seeing them exhibited at Universal Studios Hollywood . Turner developed her own cartoon series about young girls called Gilda Radner before becoming president/CEO/producerof Hanna Barbera Productions Incorporated after leaving United Artists Corporation . She renamed her company Haltom Products Incorporated after her home state Hawaii . Malibu, California is one of the most popular places in the United States. It has a long and rich history that goes back to the 1800s. Malibu was originally known as Rancho Santa Susana. The area now called Malibu was first inhabited by Native American tribes, who were later replaced by Latinos. The first Europeans to visit Malibu were sailors on an American whaling ship, the Pincher in 1802. The whaler's captain named them "Santa Cruz" after his home island of Santa Cruz in Spain. He also gave them a map of the area and offered them land for a summer cabin if they could find it. In 1810, Mexican soldiers invaded California and occupied Rancho Santa Susana. Juan Alvarez, an Albuquerque man who had married a Mexican girl, used part of the rancho to build himself a small farm near Point Mugu on Malibu Creek (now Jurupa Valley). In 1812 he sold his farm to Captain Nathaniel Jarvis for $1,000 cash. Jarvis built Jarvis House on what is now Point Mugu Boulevard in 1814 as his headquarters for exploration of southern California. Because he had no land vested in him by Mexico, he was able to sell additional parcels of land at different prices during his years as governor of California from 1840-1846 and again from 1850-1858. In addition to selling land, Jarvis also took water rights from surrounding areas including Laguna Beach and Beverly Hills so that he could build two reservoirs: one near Venice and another off Palos Verdes Peninsula which became Whaleback Lake."
