In the summer of 1969, Malibu's first national guard unit was activated to support the US military in Operation Neptune's Spear. The unit consisted of a handful of soldiers from the local community and was soon joined by other units from nearby cities and towns. Over time, Malibu's National Guard got larger and more diverse, eventually becoming a full-fledged military force. Today, Malibu's National Guard is one of the most well-known and decorated units in California. The unit has fought in many conflicts throughout the years, including World War II; Desert Storm; Hurricane Katrina; and earthquakes in SoCal. In addition to its active duty service, members of the Malibu National Guard also provide humanitarian relief work in disaster areas around the state. The history of Malibu's National Guard can be traced back to 1882 when Captain George Eberhart organized a volunteer battalion called "The Battalion of Guards" at his home on Ocean Boulevard inMalibu. From this humble beginning, the battalion grew into an impressive force that served as guards for important local events such as coronavirus tests and funerals for notable residents like actors Douglas Fairbanks Jr. and Groucho Marx. Despite their diminutive size (the battalion had only 12 soldiers), these volunteers were some of America’s best equipped “citizen’s army” during World War I thanks to their expertise with shotguns and machine guns. After WWI ended,Captain Eberhart’s Battalion continued serving until it disbanded in 1922 when it merged with another volunteer battalion called “The Regimentnaires” which still exists today as part of The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Reserve Unit #1 (LASD REU 1). In 1931 Captain Eberhart reactivated his old Battalion under new command consisting of men drafted from among Hollywood movie stars who volunteered for service during WWII instead of going off to fight overseas like their predecessors did. This incarnation known as “The battalions at home campaign” lasted until 1945 when Captain Eberhart surrendered his commission due to ill health after leading his troops on several successful raids against Japanese forces inside Japan itself while wearing American uniforms! With WWII over and no longer needed by the military,CaptainEbershart dissolved his battalion once again but not before leaving behind a legacy that would continue through today - Ventura County wide patriotic programming offered free admission every Fourth Saturday morning at Anna Maria Island State Beach nicknamed since 1948 Officer Candidate School (OCS) for Ventura County Cadets

The National Guard has a long and varied history that includes giving gifts, donations and support to various organizations. From the early days of the Regiment when it was established in 1792 through to the present day, the National Guard has given many gracious gifts to members of society. The earliest gift from the National Guard was a watch, which was given to Captain John Forbes by Colonel George Washington as a token of appreciation for his help in suppressing an uprising in Rhode Island. The watch was also used as part of a ceremonial presentation to General James K. Polk during his visit to Newport, Rhode Island in 1909. Since its inception, the National Guard has made numerous donations both large and small. In 1911, it donated $10,000 towards the construction of Soldiers’ Home at West Point; this donation is now known as “The George Washington Building” and is one of New York City’s most iconic landmarks. In 1962, it donated $1 million towards renovations for Major General Norman Schwarzkopf’s command center at Stuttgart Air Base in Germany; this donation is now known as “Krupp-Gifthaus” and is located inside Stuttgart Air Base Museum. Additionally, over time there have been numerous smaller donations such as funds for disaster relief or special initiatives within specific units within the National Guard like Unit 521st Aviation Battalion which provides transportation for Special Operations Forces operations across America (U521AV). These donations are often times reflective of how much love and support exists between members of The National Guard and their fellow citizens alike!
