The Manhattan Beach Air National Guard's 142nd Airlift Wing (142AEW) is the airlift unit of the California Defense Logistics Agency. The wing provides logistical support for various DoD and civilian missions in both northern and southern California. The wing was activated on 15 February 1947 as the 144th Airlift Wing at Vandenberg AFB, operating Boeing C-47 Skytrain transports. It was redesignated as the 142nd Airlift Wing on 1 May 1951 when it became a Boeing KC-135 Stratotanker squadron. On 1 December 1956, the wing was again redesignated as the 142d Fighter Squadron when it converted to F-86 Sabres. The squadron operated from Edwards AFB until its activation at Los Angeles AFB in 1962 as part of Air America's "Golden Spike" program which increased USAF presence in Southern California. In 1965, while stationed at LAAF, B-52s were transferred to the squadron and used for flyovers during "Mardi Gras" parades throughout LA County. In 1969, after several years of service with Republic Aviation Co., Sacramento AAF accepted an offer to become an Lockheed P-3C Orion base station with two squadrons dedicated to providing global communications coverage over Northern California coastal communities such as Stockton, Port Townsend and Yountville; this addition made Sacramento one of only a handful of U.S. military bases that could provide Global Communications Network (GCN) services for airborne commanders around the world direct from their command posts without ever leaving their unit's home airfield or deployment site! In 1984 Headquarters Triad Air Command moved from De Anza AB to Long Beach Municipal Airport adjacent to Irvine Meadows housing triad headquarters along with Randy Stroud's new Lockheed Martin P-3C Orion aircraft being equipped with GCN capabilities! In 1992 there was a major change in command when General Accounting Office Director for Military Programs Craig Wiegand joined Air Combat Command effective 1 October 1992 succeeding General James Estrada who had been officer commanding #2 Tactical Operations Group - responsible for all operational flying activities within Air Combat Command including basing, transport/support operations worldwide day or night and strategic bombing campaign worldwide against selected targets using North American T‑6 Texan Aircraft

In 1967, the United States Air Force began deploying gift history to New York City. The program was called "Gift History in Manhattan Beach." The goal of the program was to provide military and civilian personnel with a unique experience that would enrich their lives. The first Gift History unit deployed to New York City was stationed at Park Avenue South. From there, they traveled to other locations in the city, including Union Square and the Holland Tunnel. Manhattan Beach, California is a small town located on the Pacific Coast of Southern California. It is bordered by the city of Santa Monica to the north and east, Laguna Niguel to the south, and Menifee to the west. The population was 24,872 as of 2010. The town began as a mission in 1847. In 1863 it became a township and in 1871 it became an incorporated municipality. Manhattan Beach was then renamed for Major General George Washington Pollock in 1901. The beachfront area that now makes up most of Manhattan Beach was first developed in the early 1900s when developers built large estates on stilts above the water near where they would put their homes and businesses. Today, much of downtown Manhattan Beach is filled with expensive high-rise condominiums and vacation rentals while business areas such as North End and South End are home to small shops and restaurants. There are also several parks located around town including Headlands Park which offers miles of sandy coastline, Point Lobos State Park which includes forests, beaches, lakes and reservoirs,and two main shopping streets - Third Street Westshore Boulevard (which runs along Santa Monica Pier) and Fourth Street Eastshore Boulevard - that run inland from downtown through residential neighborhoods before terminating at Shoreline Drive just outside of town limits. One interesting fact about Manhattan Beach is that it has no real ocean frontage - instead it's ringed by hillsocks made up mostly of sand dunes dating back to when waves could break against these islands remotely without hitting shorelines or crashing against cliffs on either side of the island

The US Air Force assigned pilot Captain John Ahern as commander of RAF Wallingford at the time and he made sure that all necessary paperwork was filed in order for this unique gift to be accepted by his countrymen. The C-5 Galaxy arrived at RAF Wallingford just in time for Christmas 2000, making it one of the most memorable deployments ever carried out by United States Air Forces around the world!

In recent years, development has returned with new homes being built along Martinez Boulevard near North Coast Harbor while also allowing for retail development at South Coast Plaza down 5th Street adjacent to Huntington Park beach park which has become one of the busiest areas in town with over 100 shops and restaurants

In 1939, the city annexed parts of Hermosa Beach to form a new municipality.
