The first air force gift was given in 1935 when General James Doolittle donated four F-4 Phantom aircraft to theAAF. The planes were used for training and flew missions over California during World War II. In 1947, Major General Merrill K. The RAF donated three Spitfires in 1941 to replace those lost in action during World War II. These planes were used as trainers and served with RAF Squadron No 2124 flying out of RAF Cranwell Airport until 1949 when they were transferred to USAF service under the command of Lieutenant General Curtis Eaker Jr.. After serving with Ninth AF based at Martinsville AFB, Virginia from 1951-1957 these aircraft then moved on for a tour of duty with Third AF based at Chiang Mai AB Thailand before being assigned permanently to AAF Station Elmendorf AFB Alaska from 1959-1966 where they served until withdrawn from active service in 1970 as surplus property . In 1978, an MC-130H Commando Helicopter was gifted by the USAF Museum squadron at Eglin AFB Florida as a gift for Republic Of Korea Army units deployed there conducting operations against North Korea inside South Korea since 1953 This helicopter has since been retired and currently resides at Giant's Causeway museum near Belfast Northern Ireland remembering it's time spent operating within one republic or another! In 1984, an MC-130J Super Hercules was gifted by United States Marine Corps Reserve unit MCTC Detachment One located at Iwaki AB Japan during Operation Downfall providing aerial refueling support while Brooke AFB Okinawa hosted USMC ForcesOperation Kaneda which aimed To retake key islands surrounding Yokosuka Naval Base following its fall during Ulysses S Grant's Expeditionary Forces campaign against Kim Jong Il regime . It should be noted that this particular MC-130J flew its last mission on September 11th 1988 after more than 25 years operational employment ! The latest donation came about 5 years later when an MH-60R Seahawk helicopter was gifted by MOD (Royal Malaysian Navy) Joint Task Force 153 located off Penang Island Malaysia supporting coastal search and rescue efforts following widespread flooding along East Coast Malaya due to Typhoon Yolanda Ia earlier that year which affected both statesparticularly Penang Island It should also be noted that this particular MH-60R has now been replaced by an AH-64E Apache Dragon helicopter which will serve alongside Royal New Zealand Airforce fighter pilots supported by joint exercises between our two nationsongoing until 2020 !! Here are some examples: 3) Boeing 747SP - On October 7th 1999, four Boeing 747SP airplanes were gifted direct to unit Headquarters 5th Bombardment Wing at Childers Field AFB Oklahoma City while attending Operation Noble Eagle III exercises being conducted by coalition partners Saudi Arabia and UAE. These planes would later become known as "The Thunderbirds" due their successful aerial refueling missions during Operation Desert Storm!
