Manhattan Beach, California is a small town in Southern California. It is located on the southern coast of Los Angeles County and has a population of about 35,000 people as of 2010. The town was founded in 1894 by Gertrude Vanderbilt Whitney and her husband Alfred Vail, who were also the first to own land in what is now Manhattan Beach. The coffee industry in Manhattan Beach began with German immigrants who arrived in 1847 and started planting coffee trees near where they lived. By 1870, over 100 coffee farms had been established around the community. In 1910, two Dutchmen named Cornelius Wevers (1857-1937) and Balthazar Kapp (1859-1938) opened their first coffee shop called "Dutch Bros." In 1915, Mr. Wevers started marketing his beans under the name "Los Angeles Coffee" which became well known throughout Southern California. The next year, he opened his second store called "Anglo Coffee" on Main Street in nearby Hermosa Beach. In 1916 Mr. Wevers married Bernadine Hutton (1884-1967). Bernadine was from Baltimore, Maryland and had come to live with her parents after she was released from prison for vote fraud when she was 17 years old. She soon recognized that growing an up privilege could not keep African Americans from gaining access to education and opportunity like her white friends had done before her – so she decided to help make sure this never happened again by starting a school for girls back at home that would provide them with quality education while empowering them economically as well as politically within their communities%. She also crossbred some of her own plants with those of other farmers in order to improve yields and increase flavor diversity among their crops through crossbreeding techniques that involved cutting off pieces of different fruits or vegetables so that different parts would mate together to create a new variety; this process resulted in the creation of several commercially successful varieties such as Catonsville Cherry (fromBaltimore), Mt Carmel Guatemalan (from Guatemala), La Teja Nicaraguan (from Nicaragua), etc.). The name Manhattan Beach comes from the fact that it lay next to Manhattan Creek which empties into theSan Joaquin River. In 1875, developer George Eastman built Trump Castle on Point Reyes Boulevard in what is now downtown Manhattan Beach and opened it for business as a casino resort hotel and yacht club. In 1957, he sold Trump Castle and its land to Mayor Clifford Berry for $1 million. In 1961, Berry donated land adjacent to his home on Donner Avenue for use as a parkland community called "Trump Park". In 1984, Mayor Jerry Brown designated Trump Park as a state park with full environmental compliance including off-road driving capabilities so that the public could enjoy this undeveloped area while still being within city limits

At that time it consisted of only a few hundred residents and had no school system; its main function was to provide access to the ocean for bathing and fishing purposes. By 1916, when it became part of North Hollywood, Manhattan Beach had a water tower and electric lighting made possible by municipal bonds issued by Los Angeles County; commercial development began soon afterwards. In 1940, an airfield was constructed east of downtown Manhattan Beach for use by the United StatesAAF during World War II; it served as El Toro Naval Air Station until its closure in 1951.
