In the early 1800s, coffee beans were grown in the fertile soils of what is now Manhattan Beach, California. The first cup of coffee was brewed on a small farm near present-day Los Angeles in 1825. In 1886, Dutch immigrants founded the Holland Coffee Company and began to sell coffee from a small warehouse on Second Street in downtown Manhattan Beach. By 1907, the Holland Coffee Company had become part of J.P. Morgan & Co., whichowned other businesses in downtown Manhattan Beach such as The Standard Oil Co., Hollywood Casino and Pacific Gas and Electric Company. In 1915, America's first commercial espresso machine was installed at The Standard Oil Company building on Union Boulevard in downtown Manhattan Beach. By 1925, over 150 different types of espresso machines were being sold throughout California by Italian immigrants who had brought their famous Roma (pronounced roh-mah) beans with them when they arrived in North America. American consumers responded well to Italian-made espresso machines that produced rich complex flavors that differentiated them from European models. As importation of Italian espresso machines increased, so too did competition among American manufacturers for market share. Eventually two leading companies emerged: RCA Victor Espresso Incorporated (later known as Nestle) and John Deere Manufacturing Incorporated (later known as Peet's Coffee). The popularity of espresso machines led to an increase in milk demand; this caused farmers to add more water to their coffee crops during the wetter months of the year when irrigation systems were available but not typical during dryer months when water availability was limited or non existent. As a result, certain coffees became increasingly watered down or adulterated with chemical substances in order to meet marketing demands for high quality beverages - often referred to as "tactical" or "premium" coffee brands today. Manhattan Beach is a beach town on the eastern coast of California, United States. It is located in Orange County and has a population of about 60,000 people as of 2010. The name Manhattan Beach comes from the Manhattan Project, which was conducted at Los Alamos National Laboratory in New Mexico during World War II. The first residents of the area that would become Manhattan Beach were Native Americans who hunted and fished along the ocean shoreline. In 1853, James J. Wright built a small cabin near where he now lives on Hermosa Island to use as a summer home for his family. This began what would be an long and successful fishing industry in this part of Orange County. By 1870, word had spread throughout Northern California about goldfields being discovered at Sutter's Mill on Point Arena Peninsula in San Francisco Bay. This led to large numbers of people heading west to find new opportunities and make money mining gold and other minerals in what became known as Central California’s Gold Rush era. In 1872, two brothers named Alfred Bancroft opened up what would become one of America’s first modern surfing beaches with their commercial dredge pier called “Dolphin Reef” just south of present-day Broadway Boulevard on Manhattan Beach Pier Road (later renamed Deep Cove). From this beachfront location they could watch ships come into port from all over the world coming to pick up cargo for various businesses ashore including flour mills, breweries, shipyards and mines; it was an ideal spot from which to view sailboats making their way down Long Beach Harbor or see launches departing for Newport News or Baltimore Harbor both nearby! In 1886 Alfred Bancroft sold his interest in Dolphin Reef to Jens Christensen who ran it until 1906 when it passed back into private hands again until finally being purchased by city officials in 1962 By 1906 there were already several dozen small hotels dotting downtown Manhattan Beach; most notably The Regency Hotel which still stands today - becoming one of only a handful remaining pre-war hotels open continuously inside American Samoa since 1959! As early as 1907 enough development had occurred within downtown Manhattan Beach that City Council decided that it was time for them move “the seashore resort eastward into orange County” – giving us current day Downtown Manhattan beachfront locations such as Hermosa Place/Broadway Boulevard/Pacific Avenue etcetera! On October 28th 1909 Mayor Halsey appointed Averill Harriman Secretary of Commerce for Californias newly formed State government so Harriman directed him how best to improve conditions within Municipal Boroughs across the state – something that mayoral candidate Eugene Vinal did not shy away from doing himself! Along with Dr George Wiggin (City Physician) Dr Harry Laughlin set about developing green infrastructure features such as storm drains leading directly into Maryland River estuary providing essential water discharge reliability needed during coastal storms Seasonal variations can also cause significant amounts salt water intrusion resulting in seaweed growth which can impact local fisheries leading eventuallyto impacts on tourism both ashore & offshore! Although much work still needs to be done prior to 2020 when fully renovated & reopened under new management these installations provide important evidence demonstrating how City officials working together through publicprivate partnerships can successfully achieve success while safeguarding our Coastlines quality OF LIFE
