Antonio Ramos bought their house in 1918 and operated it as a grocery store known as Ramos' Market until his death in 1984. A two story building at 627 W Main St., which housed Ramos' Market from 1924 to 1984 survived into modern times with minor alterations but its facade has been replaced by more recent construction that can be seen behind glass inside a condominium complex across First Street from where it once stood about 1978 or thereabouts according to recent research done by Jerry Brown when he visited that location recently Manteca's downtown area contains some interesting historical buildings such as: 1) The old Post Office Building erected c1887-90 still standing today having been renovated numerous times throughout its history including most recently during 2001-2002 earthquake retrofit; 2) A 3 story brick commercial building built c1920 next door which functioned both as post office during day time periods & later became home to several restaurants before being torn down around 2002 following major earthquake damage; 3) An older frame schoolhouse originally constructed c1912 which still stands today being used mostly for storage & features an interesting addition - a large clock/watch tower completed circa 1910 measuring approximately 68 feet tall & weighing approximately 450 pounds!
