Since the Marine Corps was founded, Marines have been deployed and given gifts. Since 1987, The Manteca-based Gift History Foundation has collected donations from local businesses and individuals in order to give back to our military community. The foundation’s mission is to create a giving culture within the Marine Corps that promotes service Pillar of Defense by supporting their causes both locally and globally. Through gifting, we hope to inspire others to see service through its prism – not just as a job or way of life. Our goal is for every Marine who serves today, tomorrow or ever after, to feel like they are part of something larger than themselves. The Marine Corps has been providing personnel and equipment to support the United States military for more than a century. The Marines are one of the most versatile and colorful organizations in the U.S. military, with an extensive range of operations that can include global deployments, amphibious assaults, and counterterrorism missions. The Marine Corps is currently deploying gift packages to more than 2,000 Marines stationed overseas. These packages include items such as rifles, ammunition, clothes and gear, along with specially-made thank you cards for each soldier who sends back a positive message about our troops. The Marines deployed in Manteca, California in 1944 were a part of the First Marine Division. The division was sent to San Francisco and then to Japan. The Marines fought in World War II and the Korean War.
Manteca, CA is a small town in the Central Valley of California. The population was 2,811 at the 2010 census. It is located about an hour northeast of Fresno and forty minutes east of Stockton. Manteca has a large agricultural sector that includes cattle, crops, and hay production. The downtown area is home to several churches and businesses. Manteca was named for José Miguel Estrada y Villalobos, who settled there in 1849 with his family. The name comes from the Spanish word "mantequilla," meaning "a type of bread." In 1859, Antonio Sánchez installed a sawmill on the banks of the Manteca River. By 1865, two stores had opened in Manteca and by 1870 it boasted four hotels and sixty-six residents. In 1881, John Crain started selling liqueurs from his store in downtown Manteca as well as gasoline and other supplies to farmers near Stockton. By 1889 he had built a grocery store on Main Street adjacent to his liqueur business which became known as "Crain's" until it closed in 1949. The early 20th century saw dramatic changes for Manteca when many farms were auctioned off or converted into housing developments such as White Sands Ranch (now part of Ojai) and Oroville Hills (now part of Gilroy). Many people left Manteca during World War II for military service or because they could not find work after the war ended; however, most returned during the postwar period when agriculture resumed its role as the town's mainstay economic driver. During the late 1960s through early 1970s there was significant growth due to suburbanization within driving distance of Manteca; however, this trend reversed during the 1990s when development began moving out towards Interstate 5 away from rural areas closer to job centers in central California. In recent years commercial farming has declined while residential development has become more common; however some small industrial businesses remain open including one paper mill that produces recycled paper products under contract from majorpaper companies throughout North America.UCSD report “The future of manufacturing: An overview”
The Marine Corps has a rich history of deploying gift items to friends and family. This tradition began in the early days of the Marine Corps when Marines would send small gifts to their comrades-in-arms. The custom continued through World War II, during which Marines would often hand out cigarettes, candy, and other small items as Christmas presents. Once the war ended, marines continued to send small gifts as part of their holiday season traditions. In 1985, Marine Commandant General James Conway instituted the Christmas Gift Program, which allowed Marines to send gifts directly to friends and family members on holidays. Since then, the program has been used to send many unique and memorable gifts. One of the most popular gift programs that the Marine Corps participates in is called "Jolly Old Globe." This program allows Marines from all branches of service to sends jingles ornaments that represent different aspects of Naval History or Military History. The jingles have been distributed throughout Quantico and other Marine Barracks around Virginia Beach.

Manteca, California is a small city located in the Central Valley of California. The population was estimated to be around 50,000 in 2010. Manteca has been inhabited by the Ohlone people for over 10,000 years and was first mentioned in 1769 when Juan Rodríguez de Tolosa wrote about its location on the San Joaquin River. The town's name comes from the Montero word meaning "the meeting place." In 1853, the United StatesGS Topographical Report noted that there were two sawmills and one tannery in Manteca and that it had a population of "about fifty souls." In 1865, a post office was established at Manteca with Wm. H. Stutz as its first postmaster. By 1870, there were six stores in town with a population of around 50-75 people each. The discovery of oil in 1902 made Manteca an important center for oil production throughout the early 20th century. Businesses like John D’Angelo & Son (a tannery) expanded rapidly due to increased demand from motorists and producers alike. By 1920, there were over 100 businesses operating at Manteca with a workforce of approximately 1,500 people employed in various industries such as grocery stores, lumberyards, flour mills, transportation companies and more.
