The history of the Coast Guard in Marina, California can be traced back to 1898 when a group of men from Northern California met to form the Marina Volunteer Fire Department. The first Coast Guard station was located on Yerba Buena Island and consisted of a few boys and their dogs. In 1907, the first Coast Guard automated watchtower was built on Point Conception. In 1912, the first lifeboat station in Marin County was established at Point Reyes lighthouse. In 1941, the Coast Guard Station in Marina opened its doors as Headquarters for Marinas Auxiliary District 2 which included cats who patrolled communities along San Francisco Bay Bridge approaches. In 1951, Headquarters moved to Point Reyes Lighthouse where it remains today. In 1957, Headquarters transferred to Sausalito and became known as USCG Station Sausalito which remained until 1993 when it moved again to point Reyes Lighthouse where it remains today. On 9/11/2001 (the day after September 11th), USCG Station Sausalito responded quickly and effectively to an emergency request for aid from Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton which had been attacked by terrorists minutes earlier on Alameda Beach in Carlsbad CA. After assessing the scene and verifying that no injuries were reported, USCG Station Sausalito returned home without incident hours later. Today’s Coast Guard stations are located throughout Marin County including Point Reyes Lighthouse which is open daily for visitors from 9am-4pm; Sausalito; Tiburon; Richmond; Palo Alto; Mill Valley; Novato; Redwood City; East Palo Alto; Crocker bungalow colony #1 near Gilroy – open year-round? And most recently Port Orchard – open seasonally only between December 1st through April 30th? These stations offer significant law enforcement and support capabilities during times of emergencies including responder training exercises such as “Shark Attack” this past July off Sebastopol beach!

Marina, California is a small city located in the San Francisco Bay Area of Northern California. It was founded in 1887 by Russian immigrants and has been the birthplace of many famous people, including General Douglas MacArthur and Mayor George Moscone. The city also hosts the America's Cup race that annually attracts world-famous sailors from around the world. Marina is known for its vibrant local culture - which includes art, music and fashion - as well as its delicious seafood dishes.
The first European to visit Marina was Englishman John Cabot in 1497. The area now known as Marina was part of the mission district, which was established in 1769 and including present-day San Rafael and Petaluma Counties. In 1821, a group of entrepreneurs founded what is now Bay City Brewing Company in nearby Sausalito. Five years later, they opened a brewery on Point Reyes Station overlooking the Golden Gate Bridge. Marina's growth began with the establishment of steamboats on the bay in 1847 by Captain David Dixon. Steamboats served as transportation for goods and passengers between Marin County and points inland. The first railroad reached Marin County in 1852, and soon after, ferry companies offered transportation to San Francisco from Marin County. In 1861, county officials designated Marina as the site of their new courthouse. The town developed rapidly during this time; by 1865 it had 5 stores, 7 residences, 1 hotel and 2 churches. The Second World War brought much needed wartime production shut down to Marin County; however, local businesses were quickly able to reopen thanks to excess stockpiles of materials shipped out from shipyards around the nation. During World War II most activity at Marina took a backseat to military preparations; however, when war ended there was an increase in commercial development throughout the region due to postwar GI migration into Marin County from all over California. In 1955 construction began on Interstate 80 through central Marin County and into Sausalito - one of the largest freeway projects ever undertaken in that country - changing how residents accessed downtowns along with other parts of rural counties across California for many miles beyond Highway 101E (now Interstate 880). This same year saw opening of both Larkspur Landing Estates Preserve - home to Point Reyes National Seashore - as well as creation of Carlsbad Caverns State Park following purchase by state government from United Mine Workers Local No.(27) By 1969 more than 30 businesses had been built or planned within walking distance of Interstate 80/Interstate 880 interchange located near Waterfront Boulevard & Eel River Rd., creating an almost contiguous business district spanning nearly 4 blocks east-west on both freeways extending deep into downtown Sausalito
