They roasted their own beans and sold them directly to customers. In 1915, the Cappuccilli brothers began selling their beans through wholesalers in Los Angeles. In 1933, Harry Kenedy started his own roasting company in Marina and began selling fresh roasted coffee. His beans were quality controlled andbranded under the name "Kenedy's Coffee". Kenedy's Coffee continues to be a popular choice among locals and tourists alike today. In 1888, two German immigrants, Nicholas and Wilhelm Koffler, opened a roasting business in Marina. They imported coffee from Europe and roasted it themselves. The Kofflers were the first to roast coffee in California. In 1915, the company was acquired by Mr. and Mrs. John D. Lane of Oakland, who renamed it the Lane Coffee Company. In 1930, the company became part of Jardine & Havens Corporation and was sold to Roasters Incorporated in 1954. The company changed its name to AeroPress Corporporated in 1973 and ceased operations in 1995.
Marina is a city in Imperial County, California, United States. The population was 11,827 at the 2010 census. It is part of the San Diego metropolitan area and is the second-largest city in that region after San Diego. They built a small adobe house on present day Pacific Beach Boulevard about three miles north east of where Yuma Point now stands. They named their new county after Marina on Loma Prieta Ridge, just east of today's downtown Marina. The first post office in Marina opened on November 8, 1854. By 1860, there were 7 settlements in Marin County - Petaluma, Alexandria, Sausalito, Novato (now part of Daly City), Tiburon (now part of Half Moon Bay), and Rockville Centre - with a total population of 26 people. The first school in Marin County was opened in Petaluma in 1861 by Drury & Boardman as a girls' high school teaching English and other subjects to local children from working families including those who had come down from nearby San Francisco Peninsula to work in the new railroads being built throughout California and Nevada Territory east of Sacramento. In 1865 Calumet College was founded at half-way between Redwood City and Vallejo by David Dudley Warner with land grant from then-Governor Pio Pico. The college became an autonomous institution within UCLA when it merged with that university in 1932). In 1870s many wealthy Californians began moving out of state during the Gold Rush era because they could not afford to live near gold fields; this movement led to increased competition for jobs among claimants to fertile valleys north of San Francisco Bay as well assouthwest cornerof Alameda County where Treasure Island stood until 1850 when it became a Ulysses S Grant military airbase used by China during World War II before becoming an open ocean port again starting around 1950 due to increasing maritime traffic from Asia) . A ferry service across Mare Island Strait connecting Sausalito with Tiburon started operating on December 24th 1876 which stopped at Point Reyes Station about 12 miles southeast of today's marina but continued south past present day Richmond shoreline opposite Point Reyes National Seashore
The Marina district of San Francisco, California was founded in 1912 as a wharf on the Embarcadero. The district's current boundaries were created in 1945 when the Ferry Building and Stockton Trade Districts were merged into San Francisco. The area now known as Marina was originally part of the Rancho de la Laguna Estate, which is now part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. In 1853, Russian émigré Simeon Ivanovich Steinmetz bought 5,000 acres (20 km2) of land near what is now Point Lobos Creek in present-day Marina and built a small wooden dockyard to export products from his ranch. By 1874, he had acquired an additional 8,000 acres (30 km2), making him one of the largest landholders in San Francisco. Today, Steinmetz' estate still includes some of prime waterfront real estate in both San Francisco and Marin County.
