The Coast Guard has been in operation in the Bay Area since 1879. The first coast guard station was built on Alameda Island and patrols the bay and its waters. In 1915, the San Francisco Municipal Railway started providing passenger service along San Francisco waterfronts, which spurred development of a more comprehensive coast guard service. In 1935, the California State Legislature passed Assembly Bill No. 219 which established the California Department of Transportation as part of state government. The Coast Guard became an independent agency within this new department and began receiving their own funding from this source. The first vessel to be crewed by the Coast Guard was PC-4 Ariel, which was converted from a fishing boat into a coastal patrol vessel in 1951. A major growth period for the Coast Guard occurred during World War II when over 100 ships were commissioned as patrol vessels and searchlights were added to many vessels. Many important milestones during this time include: -First Searchlight Squadron born - August 1941 -First Helicopter Patrol Squadron born - November 1943 -First Missile Warning Squadron born - October 1945 -First Shipboard Air Traffic Control Unit (SAUCU) born - December 1946 In 1970, two new divisions were created within the Coast Guard:marine security forces and icebreaking services. These divisions continue to grow in importance today and are responsible for conducting operations throughout Northern California's icy coastline as well as inland waterways including Yolo River Valley, Sacramento River Delta, Transamerica Pyramid Lakes National Monument & Wilderness Section & Shasta Lake National Forest

It is interesting to think about the history of Marysville, California. This small town in Northern California was founded by Captain John C. Fremont in 1849 and soon became a key stop on the Oregon Trail. After the Mexican-American War, Marysville became a popular stopping point for American soldiers and their families traveling westward. The town continued to grow during these years and by 1865 it had reached its current size. During the late 1800s, Marysville experienced both positive and negative changes. On the positive side, many businesses opened up in the town during this time period such as a bank, lumberyard, grocery store, post office and hotel. Additionally, many prominent citizens such as George Hearn formed important partnerships within the community. These partnerships would later lead to some of Marysville’s most significant accomplishments over the years including being named “the cultural capital of Northern California” in 1960 and hosting numerous gay pride events throughout the 1990s and 2000s. However, despite these successes there were also some negative aspects to life in Marysville at this time. For example, several homes were destroyed in a fire that occurred in 1897; this event has been cited as one of the biggest challenges faced by residents of Marysville at that time. Additionally, unemployment rates were high during this time period which contributed to increased crime rates in the town; these problems would continue until after World War II when things started to improve marginally forMarysville residents). This experience helped her develop strong connections within her community which she would use later to help form nearby towns like Benicia (now part of Berkeley), Martinez (now part of Oakland) and Stockton (now part of San Jose). 3) The Pioneers Who BuiltMarysville: A Tribute to those who made our community what it is today – In this article we take a look back at someofthe earliest pioneers who builtMarysville before turning their attention towards other endeavors! We include photographs from various archives detailing life inside these early settlements along with stories from individuals involved!
In 1851, Marysville was founded by American businessman and political figure James W. Richardson. Richardson renamed the town after his wife, Mary Anna Smith, who he married in 1849. The town quickly became a thriving center for farming and ranching, with a population of about 100 people in 1850. By 1870, the population had increased to nearly 2,000 people. In 1916, the town was annexed by Modesto; during that time its population decreased from 2,000 to just over 500 people. In the early 1920s, Marysville experienced a significant increase in methamphetamine production due to its remote location and lack of infrastructure. Methamphetamine production continued until it was shut down in 1984 following an investigation by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). The town's economy has since declined significantly as a result of methamphetamine addiction and crime rates have increased recently.
