Marysville is an agricultural town in Kern County, California. The population was 9,711 at the 2010 census. It is located on the eastern edge of the Valley of the Kern River, about east of Bakersfield and west of Fresno. The community was platted in 1887 by brothers George and Isaac Morse and their father, Ebenezer Morse. The name "Morse" honor George and Isaac's grandfather, Moses Morse (1762-1837). The original town site lay just south of present-day Marysville on a small stream called Deer Creek. In 1907, when Norris Cotton Company bought land from Ebenezer Morse for $100 per acre ($ in 2018), the brothers donated all but one acre (or about ; ), forming what is now known as Norris Cotton Company Park. Moses Sabetty (1847-1926) founded Marysville Fruit Growers Cooperative Society in 1912 to promote fruit production in California's Central Valley.. During World War I he organized local defense committees and served as director of food storage for United States military camps throughout the war; he also developed a 10 acre orchard around his home that yielded many fruits including apricots and peaches. After the war he resumed farming with his son Aharon Sabetty until his death in 1926. In 1926 Aharon Sabetty's widow Nena sold her share to Harry Cone who renamed it Marysville Marketing Corporation after himself and then merged with other nearby marketing companies to form Cone Food Products Incorporated in 1938.. The company produced alfalfa hay, applesauce, eggs, pearseed oilseed rape seed oilseed rape transgenic cottonseed meal products etc., until its sale to Monsanto Co.,Incorporated in 1999.. The settlement at Deer Creek was abandoned during Prohibition becausealcohol could not be grown there due to lack of irrigation facilities;; later it became a ghost town where only a few buildings remain today

Throughout its history, Marysville has been home to many notable individuals including bootlegger and gambler John D'Arcy McGee, entrepreneur Hyrum Smith, and politician Hiram Johnson. In 1908, Mayor Noble Rice donated land to create what is now known as downtownMarysville. This area contains many historic buildings such as the old City Hall and Mrs. Hearst's house which are still in use today. Today, Marysville is a vibrant community with a rich cultural heritage that continues to make it one of California's most popular tourist destinations
