In 1851 a second mission was founded here by Father Miguel León de Urquiza y Costilla. In 1868 an act of Congress created "the City of Marysville" within San Bernardino County as part of a larger effort to create agricultural districts throughout California. James Wickersham (1813–1892), who had been mayor of Sacramento for many years before that, became acting governor and directed Wickersham's clerk general, John Cushing (1815–1904), to issue a certificate for incorporation as a city under the name "Marysville." On July 1, 1870, incorporation proceedings were completed and Mayor Wickersham signed an ordinance setting forth its boundaries; it included all present day cities excepting Lodi which joined after annexation from Westlake on November 3rd 1921 On November 3rd 1921 Lodi annexed from Westlake making it part of Marysville proper The first post office opened in MarysVILLE on October 24th 1888 In 1916 William Randolph Hearst bought large tracts here from J J Goodyear & Co., becoming one of America’s most powerful men In 1969 he sold his interest in Marysvilles municipalsystem to developer Don Shriver..Don Shriver renamed it Yorba Lindacity ..the current name

The city grew rapidly from its incorporation in 1854 until it reached its peak population of 507 people in 1870. The city experienced several major milestones during its time as an incorporated municipality: 1) On November 11, 1854, the first election under state law held in California resulted in Mayor John Cranch being chosen as mayor with 54% of the vote; 2) On January 3, 1865, City Manager Lewis A. Hahn resigned after less than two months on the job due to disagreements about how much water should be delivered to residents; 3) On December 5, 1870, City Council voted to annex agricultural land east of Railroad Avenue into the city limits; and 4) On June 6, 1888- after years of discussion-the first electric streetlights were installed within the boundaries of Marysville.
