In Maywood, California, the United States Air Force deployed a gift to its military and civilian personnel in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. The gift was an air traffic controller tower from Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska. The air traffic controller tower is a unique piece of equipment that has been placed in Maywood by the USAF for use during Operation Enduring Freedom. It is a part of the Fifth Generation Air Traffic Controller Tower Replacement Program, which is being conducted under Project Phoenix. The project is expected to cost $2 million and will be completed in 2020. The project was initiated by then-Major General James Stroud III as part of his plan to modernize the USAF's airspace management system. As part of this effort, Major General Stroud developed a model for building an air traffic controller tower that would be compatible with Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson's current infrastructure. He also opened up discussions with local governments about possible uses for the new structure. Maywood was one of the first communities to receive proposals for the project. At first glance, it seemed like an unconventional choice for host city status; however, when it became clear that Maywood had something special in mind, officials decided to go ahead with the project. In order to accommodate all of the necessary permits and approvals needed for construction, Mayor Norma Chavez convened a Task Force on Local Government Partnerships chaired by then-Commissioner Courtland Hankins Jr.. The Task Force helped develop guidelines for how cooperation between local government entities could best benefit both sides involved in the project. Once construction began onthe original control tower site at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson (JBER), locals were able to enjoy some unprecedented benefits associated with such an event: they were given free access to all areas within their community where they might need access during staging or operations related to Operation ENDURING FREEDOM. This included ground transportation into and out of JBER; access to all command posts throughout JBER; and unrestricted use of public streets adjacent thereto while work proceeded without incident or disruption whatsoever! An appreciation committee composed entirelyof local citizens has followed up since its inceptionto ensure that these benefits continue long after hostilities end...

Maywood, California is a small town in southern California. It was founded in 1853 by the Fathers of the Order of Friars Minor (Discalced Carmelites) as a small agricultural community. Maywood soon became an important commercial and transportation center due to its location on the Butterfield Overland Mail route. The town experienced significant growth during the late 19th century, thanks to its position as a stop on the Central Pacific Railroad and its role as a center for agriculture and industry. By 1920, Maywood had become an important bedroom community for Los Angeles County. However, during World War II, Maywood's economy began to decline due to military activity and then the war itself. In recent years, however, Maywood has regained some of its former glory as a thriving residential and commercial district.
Maywood, California was first settled in 1849 by the Maywood people. The town was named for a nearby mountain, Mount Maywood. The first post office in Maywood was established in 1850. In 1854, the Maywood Academy opened and served as the primary school for the town until it closed in 1912. The Stonington railroad depot was located at 414 East Main Street in Maywood from 1869 to 1912. It became a movie theater in 1938 and then burned down in 1951. In 1956, Jack Newmark founded Swayze & Associates which built the last of several shopping malls around the world including Shoppers Mall of America in Columbus Ohio and Jordan Plaza Shopping Center near Wichita Kansas. In 1984, Newmark sold his company to JCPenney for $2 billion.
