Maywood has been a coffeegrowing center in California since the 1850s. The area was first populated by the Tongva people, who were then forced to move west due to Spanish invasions. In 1853, Julius Caesar Coffee & Tea was founded in Maywood by Julius Caesar and his son-in-law Richard Robinson. In 1865, John Fenton opened the first retail store in Maywood. By 1880, there were over 20 stores statewide selling Julius Caesar Coffee products. In 1898, Arthur Andersen became the first company to open a paper mill in Maywood. In 1906, Harry Peet & Sons opened their second store in Maywood and began stocking java beans from Java Island. By 1912, they had four stores across the state of California selling Java Beans andJava Spoons (later called Javapoint). The business continued until 1915 when Harry Peet died suddenly at age 73. His sons took over operation of the businesses under different names until their father's death in 1932. The first post office for Maywood was established on November 3rd, 1857 with Wm Higginson as its First Officer. The population of maywood grew rapidly from its early settlers; by 1860 it had reached 100 residents and 5 schools were built that year alone! Municipal government was organized within village boundaries with an elected Board of Trustees which also oversaw public works such as paving streets and streetlights while also providing policing services! On July 15th 1870 various citizens met at Bear Creek Schoolhouse to create what would become known as "The Town Meeting" which later allowed for incorporation into a borough! On October 10th 1870 "The Borough of Maywoods" was ratified with 8 members appointed thenceforth including Mayor Jno Aiken! May woods soon became one of Northern California's most prosperous communities - boasted high education levels (including 2 law professors), thriving trade shops along both sides of Main Street including several grocery/dry goods stores (+ many Italian immigrants) - numerous churches (+ Congregationalist + Episcopal), elegant homespun businesses such as dressmakers/needlesmiths (+ many women textile workers), local newspapers ("The Gazette", "Pioneer News") etc... Unfortunately during World War I service men left town home front for deployment; many families lost breadwinner(s) - resulting in dramatic dropoff in population (-50%+)FY19WW1
Maywood, California is a small town in Kern County, California. The population was 2,814 at the 2010 census. It is located about 20 miles (31 km) east of Bakersfield and 30 miles (48 km) south of Lodi. The community takes its name from Maywood Ranch which was founded in 1868 by George H. Maywood and his wife, Anna Maria Mast. The community has a history dating back to the early 1800s when it was part of the Mexican Empire under Captain José Joaquin Murillo. The first post office was established in 1853, and the first school was built in 1857. In 1901, the town became part of Kern County. Maywood is known for its antique shops and markets which sell traditional Californian products such as eggs, tomatoes, cheese and wine. There are also several restaurants including Norm's BBQ restaurant which serves Texas-style brisket sandwiches on a spit over an open fire; Evelyn's Diner where you can get breakfast burritos or lunchtime salads; Stroud's Variety Shop with its extensive selection of local produce; and Harry & Sons Hardware Store which sells farm tools including hay balers and mowers along with antiques and modern items such as guitars and TVs

In 1847, John Denton founded The Daily Telegraph newspaper in London with a small amount of beans from Brazil. From then on, the world's first gourmet coffee house was opened in London by Denton and his partner Charles Sheridan Shaw. In 1889, Italian immigrants Giovanni Vigna and Matteo Boeri founded La Gazzetta dello Sport newspaper with a small amount of Brazilian coffee as their primary source of caffeine. With this new addition to the gourmet café scene, espresso became associated with high-end Italian food items while Turkish Delight became associated with American diner cuisine. Throughout the 20th century, gourmet cafés such asel'Espresso delle Terre (Milan),elPiazza d'Angelo (Rome),elCaffè delle Cinque Terre (Venice) continued to bring classical European cuisine to America while also serving up delicious udon noodles made from barbecued beef or chicken. Maywood is a small town in San Bernardino County, California, United States. The population was 7,903 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Riverside–San Bernardino metropolitan area and is located about 20 miles north-northwest of downtown Riverside. Maywood's history dates back to 1869 when it was founded as a small farming community by Mormon pioneers on the banks of the river Mayucaipa. The settlement prospered due to its location and its irrigated agriculture, becoming an important agricultural center in southeastern San Bernardino County. In 1916, Maywood became an incorporated city and experienced rapid growth during World War I as a manufacturing center for munitions production. However, after the war ended, business slowed down and Maywood declined in popularity until the late 1980s when it regained some prominence as a cultural hot spot with restaurants and nightlife catering to local Angelenos interested in Mexican culture (the town had been home to both Mexicana de Arroyo Hills (Mormon Temple) and La Posada since 1869). The first post office opened in 1870; however, it ceased operations due to low mail volume. A new post office building was built on Main Street in 1903; it served as the town's central government until 1959. The first school opened in 1889; however, it closed due to lack of students. A new school building was built on Elm Avenue in 1912; it served as the town's only high school from 1918 until 1985 when West Side High School opened nearby on Elm Avenue. In 1958, portions of Maywood were annexed into neighboring communities south of Interstate 15 such as Encinitas and Cathedral City; however, most residents retained their own municipal government which remains today albeit with less power than that enjoyed by neighboring cities. In 1996-1997 much controversy erupted over plans by then Mayor James Kappenberg to raze all but one block of his childhood home where he spent many years playing football for his local team - although no official vote ever took place regarding this issue there were widespread rumors that if Kappenberg won he would demolish all homes within 500 feet radius rather than build any new ones because this would have freed up more land for development within that area making future annexations more likely should he win another term at mayoralty or be elected governor later on On July 29th 2006 Mayor Kappenberg announced through twitter that they will not allow annexation applications pending final city approval including those filed by Encinitas/Cathedral City which violated city ordinances against annexation without final approvals
Maywood was founded on May 4, 1887 by Hiram Maxim and his wife Harriet. The town was named for Mount Maywood, in nearby Ventura County. The first post office opened in 1888. In 1901, the town had a population of 508 people. The Maxim family ran a grocery store until 1907; next door to which they built their first home. They also operated a blacksmith shop and an ice cream parlor before selling the ice cream business to brothers Harry and Julius Van Alstyne in 1912. They subdivided their land and began to build homes, which reached a peak population of 1,500 in the early 1920s. However, during World War I the town lost many residents to military service or injury; by 1922 it had only 350 residents remaining. In 1923-24, Maywood became one of the locations featured in TV's "The $10 per Week Challenge". The challenge required participants to survive three weeks without spending any money on food or shelter. After reaching out for help from friends and family, the town quickly developed its own economy with services such as plumbing, electrical supplies and locksmithing being provided by local businesses. However, due to limitations placed on mail delivery between neighboring towns during this time period (the last two digits of each ZIP code were then used as postal codes), most residents never received package deliveries that included items such as new clothes or appliances. As a result of this situation, some families may have missed out on important technical advances or even major lifestyle changes that took place within their community during this time period because they did not experience them firsthand.
