The Maywood National Guard was activated on February 14, 1918. The first sergeant in the unit was John W. Byrnes. It served as a men’s auxiliary unit until December 25, 1922 when it became a women’s auxiliary unit under the command of Captain Fannie Brossard. On November 15, 1935, the Auxiliary Unit was redesignated the National Guard Bureau Citizen Force Service Corps and on January 1, 1936 it became an all-volunteer force.
Maywood, California is a small town located in the Central Valley of California. The population was 9,814 at the 2010 census. It is part of Tulare County. The first European to visit Maywood was Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo in 1542. He named it San Miguel de Maywood after his patron saint, Miguel de Magdalena. The next year, Sebastián Vizcaíno visited and named it Cerro Gordo after his flagship ship "Guadalupe". In 1836, gold was discovered at Sutter's Mill in nearby Oroville and soon there were huge placer mines being drilled in the area. A post office was established at Maywood on December 12, 1836 by James Hutton appointed by Gov. Burnett as part of a campaign to promote mineral exploration in California. A school opened for children in 1837 which became the only high school west of the Mississippi River until Chico opened its doors in 1908. In 1840, a cotton gin and mill were built near present-day Interstate 5 and Pacheco Avenue; both went out of business within a few decades due to overproduction from new mills started up around that time throughout California. The first train into town arrived on October 16th 1860 from Sacramento with 11 passengers including Ulysses S Grant who had just been elected President that day; he rode in an open car down Main Street with other dignitaries stopping at various businesses along the way including Larkin’s Brewery where he sipped wine while waiting for his ride home (present day El Sobrante Coffee). On November 6th 1860 two more cars came through town with General John Custer arriving from Fort Laramie via stagecoach from Sacramento having ridden all night long from Fort Kearny eastward across hostile territory inhabited by Sioux and Cheyenne people during their winter encampment about 25 miles north of present day Maywood on Black Hills National Forest which lay between those mountains and South Dakota Territory then under construction as part of what would become known as the Dakota War Of 1862-1863 when Nebraska Territory was created following approval by Congress following Lincoln's victory over Union General Robert Ewing at Battle Of Gettysburg July 14th 1863) leaving behind many interpretive displays still extant today celebrating this significant event in our history: His picture can be seen displayed prominently outside today’s old storefront on Main Street opposite Pacheco Avenue where he alighted before continuing his journey southward en route to Sturgis,[2]home base for cavalry operations during much of this conflict.]

Maywood is a town in San Bernardino County, California, United States. The population was 7,711 at the 2010 census. Maywood was founded in 1878 by George H. Cook and named for its isolation from other settlements on theranch of Rancho Cucamonga. The first post office in Maywood was established on April 30, 1879, by Wm. E. Weems with the name of "Casa Blanca". It operated under the name of "Maywood" until October 1, 1886 when it changed to its current name after a Proposition 65 meeting where residents voted to change their community's name because of concerns about lead poisoning in nearby Tijuana. In 1912, Maywood incorporated as a city and began to build up its economy based on agriculture and munitions production during World War I and World War II. The city's first school opened in 1923 followed by an annex for the Riverside Unified School District that year which doubled as the city hall building until it burned down in 1969. In 1949, the City Council adopted an ordinance establishing streetscape features such as drive-in theatres and plazas within city limits which remain today as part of downtown Maywood’s character despite years of redevelopment efforts by developers over time (see also Streetscape) On July 15th 2018 Mayor James O’Keefe sent a cease-and-desist letter to maywoodsmithy LLP threatening legal action if they did not stop producing fake permits for their upcoming event called "TheMarchForLife".
