On September 30th 1938 District 5 became operational when it became operative under Commander John A Hodge Jr.. At this time Headquarters were relocated from Sausalito Bridge to Monterey Bay where they remain today as part of Maritime Command’s Enforcement Division responsible for enforcing US laws on all types of watercraft within coastal waters from San Francisco County up through Ventura County

When the Central Pacific Railroad arrived in 1875, Fresno became one of its main hubs. The railroad also helped spur growth in other parts of the county and by 1900, Fresno’s population numbered around 25,000 people. Fresno’s growth continued into the 20th century and during World War II, it played an important role as both a military base and manufacturing center. After the war ended, however,rowth slowed and by 1990, Fresno’s population stood at just under 15,000 people.
