In 1871 Sutter sold all his holdings in Stockton except for about 8 miles extending into what is now Tulare County where he established a small town called Haltom City which predated anything currently located there by more than 100 years! Today’s downtown Haltom City straddles both banks of the East Fork of Kings Creek since it was relocated there during construction of Interstate 5 in 1951! It wasn't until 1899 when Tom Lantieri started growing grapes at his home place just northwest of present day Haltom City that people began thinking about making wines hereabouts! That same year Jens Jakobsen arrived with his winemaking equipment from Denmark and set up shop behind Lantieri's house; starting what would become one of Northern California's most successful wine production operations! It wasn't until after World War II that other viticulturists decided they wanted their own vineyards hereabouts too – beginning with Jack London’s purchase of some 120 acres southwest of Haltom City in 1949 – followed by others over ensuing decades including George De Forest (1953), Winthrop Ames (1958), Claude Pepper (1965), Robert Mondavi (1967), Jean Michel de Villeneuve (1976), Bob Milliken (1978), Roger Nikkel(1981) and many more!

In 1853, John Mcfarland and his brother-in-law James H. Beall purchased a ranch on the slopes of Mount Shasta from Jedediah Smith. The brothers soon became known as the "Fathers of McFarland" for their early efforts in agriculture and livestock production. In 1865, they founded the town of McFarland on the site of their rancho. The town was named after John's son, who also helped found it. The Town of McFarland grew rapidly during its first few years, thanks to its position within easy access to trade and transportation along the Oregon Trail and to its own water supply from the Sacramento River. However, by 1870, there were only a handful of residents at McFarland; most people lived in nearby towns like Danville or Redding. Mc Farland experienced another growth spurt in the late 1800s following World War II when many farmers came to the area looking for new land to farm after being displaced by technological advances such as irrigation systems and tractors. The town continued growing through the 1960s and 1970s as new subdivisions were built near waterways that made irrigation possible across large areas once difficult to farm due to lack of natural resources such as water availability or terraced hillsides. Today, Mc Farland is a small but thriving community with more than 1,000 residents located primarily around Broadway Street between Healdsburg Boulevard and State Route 2 (Old Mill Road). They had six children. In 1853, he was elected to the California State Assembly and served from March 4, 1850 to January 3,1857. He was an advocate for statehood for California and served on committees on finance and taxation.
