The Mendota Coast Guard Station was founded in 1917. The original station was located on the present site of the current Mendota Coast Guard Station. The first lighthouse in Mendota County, California, was built at this location in 1846. In 1936, the Coast Guard Station moved to its present location. In 1967, the Mendota Coast Guard Station became a part of the United States Customs and Border Protection agency and is now known as United States Customs and Border Protection's (USTBP) Western Region Headquarters. Today, the Coast Guard Station provides support for law enforcement activities along the U.S.-Mexico border as well as providing humanitarian aid to migrants and refugees crossing into our country from Central America and South America. In addition to its primary mission of protecting our coastline and maritime interests, Mendota Coast Guard Station also conducts other important functions such as training incident responders; providing environmental monitoring; providing coastal security services; assisting with emergency response to natural disasters; conducting fisheries patrols;and more.

In addition to its duties along the Mendota coast, the Coast Guard also conducts Search and Rescue operations out of Humboldt County.
Mendota is a small town in northern California, located on the banks of the Sacramento River. The population was 7,856 at the 2000 census. Mendota is part of the Sacramento-San Joaquin Valley metropolitan area. It is bordered by Yuba City to the east and north, Modesto to the west and south, and Lake Elsinore to the southeast. Mendota was founded in 1869 by John Sutter as a ranching community for his father's cattle empire. Today, Mendota offers an economy based on agriculture, manufacturing, service industries, and tourism. "Mendota," according to one source "was named after General James Halleck Mendenhall (1811-1875), who had been aide de camp to Ulysses S. Grant during the Mexican War." When General Mendenhall came across some wild hops plants near where he lived in 1868 he decided that this would be an excellent location for a hop farm and started planting them himself with help from his friends including Averell Harriman and Charles Evans Hughes. In 1870 when gold was discovered near Sacramento he organized what became known as The Golden Empire Railroad Company which transported ore from various mines in nearby Nevada County back to San Francisco Bay Area via its own rails before marketing it as gold nuggets fetched high prices on Wall Street (Hageman 1903). The first store in town was built by George Waddell on Main Street about 1880 along with several other buildings including schoolhouse (1881) post office (1884), hotel (1901), bank (1902), grain elevator (1906), movie theater (1920s & 1930s) & dance hall/grill house(1930s). By 1914 there were 14 businesses with a population of over 350 people including 1 grocery store/confectioneries/chocolate factory; 3 druggists; 2 undertakers; 2 blacksmiths; 1 harnessmaker; 1 tailor; 1 photographer; 3 wheelwrights; 2 electricians; 1 carpenter/plumber/furniture maker etc…..Today only 4 businesses remain active with over 1000 residents………. outside services are now provided by social clubs such as tennis courts (& library); health club

Mendota is a small, unincorporated community in Kern County, California. It lies on the banks of the Verdugo River and was named for James W. Mendota, an early settler. The post office at Mendota opened in 1909 and closed in 1961. The only remaining structure from that time is a garage used by the Mendota Creek Watershed Association to store water supplies.
Mendota is a small town in California, United States. The population was 3,052 at the 2010 census. It is part of the San Bernardino County suburb of Riverside. The community was founded in 1868 by John Mendota and his family on a tract of land east ofpresent-day Riverside. The name "Mendota" is derived from the Agave tree (Agave argentea), which grows plentifully thereabouts; so that it was not an easy matter for John Mendota to find a surname for himself, as many people in that early day did not know how to spell their first names. He accordingly took the name of his original home place, Mendota Creek, whence our present name springs. John Mendota served as postmaster for three terms (1868-72) and as justice of the peace for one term (1875-78). In 1882 he opened up a store at 5th Street and Eureka Avenue in what is now known as downtown Riverside. His store became one of the most important commercial centers in central Riverside until it closed its doors in 1961. In 1886 Jens Olson built what is now called Olson's Store on Main Street near De La Salle University. This store was one of several businesses that helped make downtown Riverside what it is today including Jens Olson's Fryer & Grill (now Donut King), First American Bank, Allstate Insurance Company, and numerous other businesses over time. The building still stands today sitting on its original site next to First American Bank across Main Street from city hall where streetcars used to run before they were replaced by buses service providing current transportation options nearby without having to go all the way into Downtown Riverside
