Today, Mendota's coffee industry is highly respected across the globe and it's still enjoyed by locals and tourists alike. Mendota is a small town in the central Valley of California, United States. It was founded in 1868 by Mormon settlers and has since been an agricultural center with a population of around 5,000. Mendota is located on the banks of the river Humboldt, east of Fresno. The community became a city in 1985 and has since undergone several name changes, including Mendota Heights and Mendota City.
Mendota was founded in 1867 by George W. Mendota and is located near Oroville, California. The town was named after a bend in the Sacramento River where Mendota Creek flows into the river. In 1881, the city of Sacramento annexed Mendota and began to build a city hall and other municipal buildings. In 1933, the city of Sacramento annexed all but 1/4 of Mendota's land, making it an enclave within the new City of Sacramento. In 1984, Mendota voters passed a measure to allow forhood status for their municipality which they later did pass in 1987. The City of Sacramento then annexed all but 1/4 of Mendota's land back into its jurisdiction effective January 1st, 1988.
