Mendota, California is home to the largest system of offshore wind turbines in the United States. The Mendota Historical Society is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that preserves and promotes the history of Mendota, California. The society was founded in 1984 by Mrs. Mildred Goetz, a local historian who had been collecting historical materials for her personal collection since she was a child. The society's first museum opened in 1988 in the old Mendota High School building. In 2003, the society moved to its current location on Avenue M in downtown Mendota.
Mendota is a small town in Fresno County, California. The population was 1,024 at the 2010 census. It is located on the bank of the Sacramento River and is west of Fresno. Mendota was platted in 1881 by Capt. George A. Smith and named for General Antonio José de Mendoza y Borja, 5th Marquis of Pascua, who led an expedition against Spanish California in 1846-48. The Alhambra Canal ran through Mendota until it was diverted to connect with the Central Valley Railroad near Needles in 1918. The canal still provides a water supply for Mendota and other small towns in the area today. In recent years, Mendota has seen a resurgence as an agricultural town with various businesses catering to local farmers and ranchers

Mendota is a small town in Contra Costa County, California, located on the banks of the San Joaquin River. It was founded in 1854 by George Mendota and his wife, Martha Ladd. The Mendota post office was established in 1865. As of 2010, Mendota had a population of 201 people. The first settler in what is now Mendota was George Mendota Jr., who arrived there from Illinois on December 15th, 1854. He and his family set up a cabin near what is now the corner of Main Street and Center Road. From this point forward, settlers began to arrive at an increasing pace, with more families moving into the area over time. One of the earliest residents to permanently settle in Mendota was John Atherton who arrived on January 12th, 1855 and built a log cabin on the north side of Center Road just northeast of present day Mendota Elementary School. In 1860, William Sutter moved from Sacramento to nearby Eureka and along with some other investors bought land at what is now south end of Center Road for $5 per acre (today’s property includes most of downtown). They started building a sawmill there which became one of the largest mills in Contra Costa County. In 1862 they donated land northwest corner section 4-6 East Main between rd & 3rd Streets which became home to their new church – First Methodist Church (later called First United Methodist Church). With this gift they helped lay down roots here as well as continued construction on their mill until it went out OFFSITE during prohibition era due to state law! A large part of early history for Mendota can be found within its current location; when George MENDOTA JR., came across these lands he decided that it would make an ideal place for himself with plenty open space & good water resources - all things he had experienced back home in Illinois!
