The Mendota National Guard Museum is a history museum in Mendota, California that tells the story of the national guard since it was created on October 1, 1903. The museum has over 40 artifacts and memorabilia related to the Mendota National Guard. The museum is open every day from 9am to 4pm. Admission is free for all visitors. The Mendota National Guard Museum was founded in 2003 by members of the local community and officials from the United States Department of Defense. At its inception, the Mendota National Guard Museum was one of only two such museums in America dedicated to history and commemoration of military service by local communities. The other museum was located at Fort Polk in Louisiana which closed its doors in 2006 due to budget cuts within DOD. Since its establishment, the Mendota National Guard Museum has grown into one of America’s most popular History Museums with over 100,000 visitors annually! In addition to displaying an impressive array of military memorabilia dating back to 1903, as well as exhibiting original artwork and displays about local community involvement with military service through militia organizations throughout American history, the museum also offers educational programs about international relations, homeland security and more!
The National Guard is a reserve force of the United States that is responsible for providing law and order during times of national emergency. The National Guard was created in 1792 as a result of the Second Continental Congress’s attempt to provide military support for American independence. Today, the National Guard provides an extensive spectrum of services, including: peacekeeping; disaster relief; counter-terrorism; military recruitment and readiness; public education and awareness programs; and homeland security. In addition, there are also special units made specifically for counterterrorism operations, such as the Delta Force. As time passed, the militia grew into a force that could be called into service by Congress for various emergencies. In 1861, when America became a republic, the National Guard was reorganized as an army under President Abraham Lincoln. The Army and Navy branches were combined in 1866 and renamed the Navy and Marines Corps respectively. In 1903, when Congress created a separate Air Force, it included elements of both services within its command structure. Today, all three branches of the military are part of one unified commands called The Army Forces Command (AFC).
Mendota is a small town in Sonoma County, California, located on the banks of the Sacramento River. The first European to visit Mendota was Juan Bautista de Anza in 1827. It was not until 1853 that placer mining began and Mendota became known as an important stop on the Central Valley gold rush. In 1863, Mendota was incorporated as a town and it remained so until 1996 when it became part ofSonoma County. Mendota's history can be traced back to 1795 when Spanish Franciscan friar Junípero Serra founded a mission at what is now called Mission San Francisco de Asís. Father Serra helped found what would become Mendota with his brother José Vásquez y Castro and other friars. The original mission site is still in use today and is occupied by the local high school. In 1827, Juan Bautista de Anza visited Mendota for the first time and he named it after his home province of Burgos, Spain. From here he explored the region which later would become part of California. A year later, American fur trader John Cranch discovered gold near Slough in Butte County while traveling downriver from Sacramento City on his way to prospect for new land east of Monterey Bay. On July 1, 1853, Chasuble & Co., Merchants (later Pacific Railroad) agents bought 350 acres (160 hectares) northeast of where Mendota now stands from José Nieto and two others for $2 per acre ($0.50 per square foot). This area formed what would eventually be known as Rancho Bernardo del Norte (also spelled Rancho Seco or Rancho Centinela). Mining operations began soon thereafter with discovery of silver ore at Sutter’s Mill on November 5th, 1863 by Jno Pritchett who mined there until 1865 under direction of US Geological Survey agent William Hensley The first mine owner/operator was José Nieto who organized workers into cooperatives known as Los Andes Mines Company Limited Partnership during 1865-1867; however this company ceased operations due to lack of suppliesometime before August 1870 When National Guards were called up against Indians upriver near Red Bluff they burned all but one shipment arriving at Mexican docks without taking any treasure Gold production increased rapidly due to better finds including an assay office built in 1865 which yielded results “reproducible within three months” such that claims could be made even if no assay results could be obtained; mines were also enlarged quickly using adobe skills acquired during earlier times In 1869 Captain Robert Fenton leased 3 miles (4 km) northward along Slough Creek from Mexicans led by Nicolás Estrada para buildenoon pier at Portola Point where various goods exported thenceforth including flour, cattle hides etc.; shipbuilding commenced soon thereafter used local materials such as adobe bricks An act dated December 14th 1870 granted exclusive rights for fifteen yearsðto certain citizens associated with Gold Rush activities hereinunder … naming them Producers…; these proprietors did produce about 10%inaof all output produced by applicants during given period … failing exports caused 50% fine levied against each applicant . . .During 1896-1901 over 100 people worked at this pierjointly operated with Aquia Creek Navigation Company beginning around 1890 Statesman article reporting effects Californians experiencing following events: – selling their products back home across state lines – importation reaching 2 million pounds sterling in 1901 – 30% value added tax charged on exports realized
