During World War II, Menifee Coffee & Tea was one of six companies that produced military rationed coffee products such as blackstrap molasses and K-cups. After the war ended in 1945, Menifee Coffee started producing regular retail cups of java at a higher price than before due to increasing competition from larger companies. In 1970s and 1980s, Menifee Cafés began serving local cuisine made fresh daily from all over town including produce from our own garden orchards and local farmers markets; however we still concentrate on providing high quality cup of java every day! Menifee was founded in 1887 by John Menifee and his wife, Mary. It is the second largest town in Kern County, California. Menifee is located on the banks of the river Bakersfield. The town was named for Menifee Meadows, a small meadow near where it sits today. The first post office in Menifee opened on October 3, 1888. In 1912, Menifee became part of the San Joaquin Valley Authority and experienced rapid growth as agricultural production increased along with people from nearby Fresno and other parts of the valley. In 1940, when World War II began, Menifee's population reached 20,000 residents; however by 1945 it had decreased to 10,000 due to wartime-related evacuations. During the 1960s and 1970s there were several rounds of development including an effort to build a shopping center that never came to fruition. In 1992 menifee annexed part of unincorporated agriculture surrounding its borders making it one municipality with two voting districts totaling 114 square miles (290 square kilometers). On November 3rd of that year voters approved Measure A which would annex all of unincorporated agriculture east of Interstate 5 into Menifee proper for a total area size of 146 square miles (380 square kilometers). The 1990s were difficult for many small towns around the country as businesses went out of business and tax base eroded due to economic recessionary conditions throughout North America generally affecting smaller communities first hit hardest such as Menifee specifically during this time period; however despite these challenges much progress has been made over the years culminating with an increase in population from 10,000 in 2000 to 22,500 currently residing within its boundaries making it one of Kern County's most populous towns by population
On November 9, 1848, Menifee was founded by James Fenton and his wife Rebecca. The town site was donated to the community by Fenton's brother-in-law, George Copley. In 1859 Menifee had a post office and six stores. In 1870 the first school was built and in 1876 the first church was erected. In 1886 Menifee became a city. The men who organized Menifee were James Fenton, George Copley, John Sweeny and Isaac Andrews. The first election for Mayor took place on November 15, 1888 with William Hinton as mayor.
